Yes it should, 660 works and the difference between 660 and 661 is minuscule.

The other key difference between the two is the GPU's clock speed. While the Core i5 661 operates its GPU at 900MHz, the other Core i5 600 series processors including the 660

I am putting together a low end gaming computer and was planning on throwing an i5-661 in an old optiplex 980 with a gtx 1050. I dont see any reason why the CPU wouldn't work, but it isnt listed as compatible on dells site. Do you guys know if this will work? I want to know before I order the processor. I appreciate the input.
