yep.

Its mostly regarded 3600x is not worth the price over 3600,

but if you plan on doing any video editing or anything which may need more cores 3700x is your best friend.

But for gaming 3600 should be great.

I’m building a gaming PC and I’m planning on buying either of these CPU’s.  I’m very new to PC building so I’m not quite sure what overclocking does.  I just want a CPU that performs great for Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or Rainbow Six Siege at 1080p on a 144hz monitor. Was wondering if the Cheaper 3600 would be what I need or the 3600X.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

3600 is all you need.  What GPU are you planning on using with it?

Should be great.

overpowered for 144hz at 1080p but you got more power there if you need it.

make sure you know your buying a ray tracing graphics card, which games support it and if you really want that feature, it increases graphics drastically with a new ‘ray tracing’ technique improving shadows and reflections.

I'd rethink your choice of GPU, as a 5700XT will be great at 1080p 144Hz.  2070s is overkill and way too expensive to use for 1080p, it's a 1440p (ultrawide even) card.
