Plain, safe, a bit boring. Better than last year but I agree that most people probably downvoted because it's the hip thing to do.

 

In YT's place I would skip next years rewind because honestly, there is no way they are going to win people back even if they create a masterpiece.

There's safe and there's safe but this years Rewind is embarrassing. For a platforms own channel, a platform to show off the creative talents of people to lack so much creativeness in a single video is poor and embarrassing.

Not sure what people expect from the rewinds.

 

Its literally just a recap of the top stuff. if you dont like what they are showing then thats not youtubes fault its the people who watch youtube.

 

I dont watch them personally because i dont care for almost any of the top channels so i know i wont like the recap for the year.

It's the first rewind video I've watched, and I liked it for the information it provided about the top 10 and worlds first and such.

At least they recognized they needed to change up their formula.  I still didn't like it, but that's just my two cents.

I think it's actually ok, because at least it covers what happened on the platform this year.

 

Here's a thing; YouTube tried to be creative, original funny etc. in their previous rewinds, and guess what; people didn't like it. Probably because everyone follows different things on YouTube, everyone finds different things important, and everyone just has a different taste. for most videos, that doesn't matter, because they just attract their own audience, but for the rewind, it kills it, because the variety in people watching it is simply too big. 

 

So YouTube made the obvious move; to use metrics to determine what the largest number of people will probably like to see, (and arrange them in a literal top 10 structure) and to use lots of original footage to keep things safe.

 

Yes, I know, rewinds have been far from perfect, and I didn't like quite a few of them, I also don't follow main YouTube stuff that well (like many others on this forum), but I feel like rewinds have been getting a bit too much criticism recently. People seem to be disliking it, just because that's apparently what everyone does. Roses are red, violets are blue, YT rewind sucks.

 

I feel like YouTube, being kind of done with this, knowing that there's no winning this battle, have simply gone:

"Now look, This is the kind of dumb, boring, unimportant and stupid stuff you have been watching this year, brought to you in an unglorified, structured, harsh way, mathematically the optimal rewind, go watch it or something, or don't, whatever."
