How to Run a ".jar" File?

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

java

So I was about to install optifine, and it's a .jar file for the installation, I tried running by selecting "open with" and I selected winrar, so my question is how do I run it as a .jar so I can install it instead of seeing the files inside it.

Yes, you need Java JRE.

Though you should know this if you're about to install Optifine... As it's for the Java version of Minecraft, not the windows 10 edition last I checked.

To be fair, Java hasn't been useful for the majority of people outside of minecraft for a long time now. I sure haven't reinstalled Java since I stopped playing it... It's just a massive security issue that is never going to be fixed. (fix one flaw, two more flaws shows up)

Java isn't a "massive security issue". The fact that it runs in the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) makes it quite secure.

Also, Java is very widely used, especially on phones and servers. Java is still the #1 language on the TIOBE Index at 16.246%, slightly higher than C at 16.037%. https://www.tiobe.com/tiobe-index/
