Ryzen 5 2600 for £77?

I have no idea if this is a good idea and whether or not it's worth buying. Most of you guys probably know AliExpress and I've never used it before.

 

Would it be a good idea to buy this Ryzen 5 2600 from there? I really need to upgrade from my i7 2600 (non k) since it was throttling in GTA online and other CPU heavy titles.

Where do you live?  You can get new 2600's from $109 in certain areas in the US.  Probably not since you asked in pounds, but I wouldn't buy used at that price.

 

Btw, if you mind scratches on your CPU....what?  How does a CPU get scratches?  It has paste on it, nothing touches it directly.  Scary comment.

I live in London, I'm not sure about the scratches bit, didn't really care unless it effects the performance.

 

Btw I'm reading on some forums that it isn't worth upgrading from the i7. I'm starting to have second thoughts

Would you suggest that I wait/ stick with what I've got for now? I really only wanted to upgrade because of the single core performance.

Are you that unhappy with single core performance, or are you seeing that new CPUs are faster?

It does perform well but in games like GTA online it just bottlenecks 90% of the time. I only really play rainbow six siege which performs well.

You only play R6, or only in R6 does it perform well?

 

Upgrading now is a good time, prices are pretty low comparatively.  Tho you're going to have to do a full upgrade.. CPU/Mobo/RAM.  What GPU do you have?  What budget do you have?

I don't really have a budget and I plan to only get a gigabyte b450m, 8gb or ddr4 and I have an Rx 570 4g. Rainbow six siege performs excellent

Not really, I bought it new last February and I'm planning on keeping it until 1 year after the ps5 comes out so I can keep up with modern requirements.

Not really sure if an RX570 4GB is keeping in modern requirements.  But as long as it performs well enough for you, I guess it's good.

 

I would upgrade to the 3600 and then you'll be sitting pretty whenever you want to upgrade the 570, as the 3600 can handle any card made currently.

 

Btw, comparing PC specs to Console specs doesn't work properly.  Just go by how games perform FOR YOU.

if you need a new CPU the 2700x is fine, just make sure motherboard has *some* room for expansion (not a completely terrible board, terrible VRMs), tbh anything that can handle a 2700x with OC should be good enough for budget build, will handle 3700/3800x

The 2700x itself is a good CPU, but problem is Ryzen 2000 is very picky about ram, and requires higher speed 2933+ (ideally 3200) to run near Zen 2 speeds, fps in games.  Problem is Its so picky about ram, unlike Ryzen 3000, its likely you will spend almost same just to get good ram that works with whatever motherboard you are using.  With digging into potential mobos and ram you can find decent deals if availability isn't a problem though

bleh, might as well get a 120$ Aliexpress 3500x if just gaming tbh....  semi-kidding, 3600 is arguably just better idea overall... But if you can find good value ram 2933-3200 speed ram that works with mobo that you want then nothing wrong with 2700x. 

Its literally limited ram compatibility + dependence of zen 2000 on ram speed, that holds 2700/2700x back as a value proposition.  If finding a decent mobo and higher speed ram for cheap is not a issues in your region then its not a problem.  But not all regions have either great (value) mobos or ram available.

What @Otto_iii says works too, it's a balancing game each time you upgrade, plenty of moving parts to play with and come up with what best suits your needs and budget.

2700X would work but I'd go 3600 personally. They're the same price and the 3600 is faster, tho less cores.  

 

Are you going for gaming or do you do video editing on your machine?
