GTA MAX graphics requirements unclear...

Hi, my name is Timothy, and I’ve been noticing some inconsistencies whenever I try to play Grand Theft Auto 5. I was hoping you guys could help me out as I’ve tried everything I could think of with almost no effect.

I experience lag when running GTA 5 at max settings (except ULTRA grass for obvious reasons), yet I still lag. I’ve read a bunch of threads about things like this, however the people that tried helping the OP claimed to have a 1050ti and a core i5 of some sort and run it just fine.

Let me cut to the chase... I have really high end hardware over locked as far as it will go, yet I can’t manage a stable 60fps.

My specs:

Ryzen 3900x (set to six cores and OC’d to ~4.6 ghz on all cores)

ML360R RGB water cooler (Runs at a semi-stable 60C to 80C)

RTX 2080 (three fans + MSI automatic OC)

64G DDR4-3000 RAM (Yes, the Xtreme Memory Profile is on)

Aorus X570 Elite

A 1T Samsung SSD (I will provide the specs if need be. As of right now I forget)

A 750W Bronze rated power supply (I will provide specs if need be. As of right now I forget.)

My friend has an RTX 2060 and a core i-7 7700k and his game looks flawless. Any ideas?

You might want to run some benchmarks like firestrike and compare your numbers online just to be sure your hardware/software is working correctly.

It could be one of those garbage software, like MSI Dragon center or whatever its called that introduce so much lag and stutter just to control your rgb. I had a similar experience.

OMEN 15T | 9750H+LM | RTX 2070 UV+OC | 1TB NVME & 1TB HDD | 144Hz GSync

That’s odd, Ill check it out. My graphics card runs at about 2% usage in gta 5 and maxes out at about 80%. My cpu on the other hand, nearly maxes out. Thanks for the feedback, I do have A LOT of rgb and it could be the problem. Thanks!!!

I did some research and found out that gta5 can only take use of 4 cores. I disabled 6 cores so I could reduce heat and increase the clock speed further. Thanks for the info though, I’ll definitely try that.

There is problem with gta 5 and ryzen cpus , specifically water setting which seems to be bugged. If you set water to anything higher than normal you would experience large FPS drops at nights. It will effect your fps even though you are no where near water.

Keeping water to normal should improve your fps and gpu usage... I hope rockstar fix this problem one day.
