1440p 120Hz on Xbox One X

The Evil Morty

So I'm slowly acquiring parts for a gaming pc that I can use with other things in the house. I have already bought a good mouse/keyboard/headset that I'm currently using with my iMac and Xbox One X. The next thing I'm looking at buying is a 1440p monitor. I found this monitor that I really like, I do have a question however. I have seen in some youtube videos that the xbox one x can output 1440p at 120hz. How many games will actually utilize this? Will most of them be capped at 60fps?

Thanks for your help everyone.

I'd expect most to be at 30 with a down sampled 4k or at 60 with an up sampled 1080p.

I used a XBOX One S with this one https://pcpartpicker.com/product/yRdFf7/samsung-lc32hg70qqnxza-490-3840x1080-144hz-monitor-lc32hg70qqnxza

It has 1Ms and it's curved and 1440P and HDR and 10Bits, 144hz with LED too..

It would run at 4K/30fps or 1440P/30FPS to 1080P/60FPS and it would be HDR compatible because of the freesync...

The experience was amazing (Sold my XBOX),

but I assume that with the monitor I mentioned the only games that would work would be the XBOX one X versions and with that it would be 4k/60 and 1440P/60 or maybe more? 1080P/60 or or maybe more?

From what I read... there was a recent update that now push for higher refresh rate. Here are the info's

https://www.windowscentral.com/xbox-one-120hz

But it depends also on the monitor, because some monitors like the one I posted only allow 144hz through DP and not HDMI.

but maybe with an HDMI 2.1 you can push 4k or 1440P (or upscaled to 4k) at 120fps..

I know Rocket League can run higher than 60fps on the Xbox One, so my best guess is games that a potato can run.

It depends on the game. Nothing stops a game from receiving new patches, so what doesn't support something now, might do so in the future (or more relevantly for you, a list made a year ago might not be up-to-date today). There is no stern push ("patch it or we'll drop it") to get the games take proper advantage of the One X. In very rough general games give the option to pick one aspect to improve, you're asking for two. But who knows. You'll need to check the games you're interested in, just don't do it by Googling ancient third-third-party lists.
