Can anyone tell me is this ips glow or backlight bleeding?

Hello

My previous brand new ultrawide monitor has 1 dead pixel so I contact Amazon for a refund and purchase a new monitor. The monitor arrive today and so far no dead or stuck pixel, but can anyone tell me is this ips glow or backlight bleeding? The monitor panel type is ips.

IPS Glow, my brand new ASUS PG279Q has the same thing. It's pretty common, when actually playing games or doing day to day tasks it's not noticeable for me, however the glow on the left side of your panel looks pretty bright.

I notice my left side glow is bright too without using camera and sitting in front close. My monitor is normal then?

I have an IPS panel and it doesn't glow like this at all - what is it doing so I can simulate and see?

It's panel lottery, some do some don't, mine is very minuscule OP's is pretty bad.

Black wallpaper and turn off all your light and use the camera. I can notice the glow without camera.

Almost all higher end gaming IPS panels have terrible bleed and discoloration. I'm not sure if it's a byproduct of pushing the panel tech to the limits or just cost saving measures. But every non gaming IPS monitor I have tried doesn't have bleed like these. I had a PG279Q and it had some pretty wicked bleed were the whites would have a slight yellow tint when looked at from an angle. It's not really noticeable unless you are looking for it. But I swapped over to VA and I couldn't go back to such bad bleed

No, that's pretty bad. Personally I'd send it back for a replacement and try to get one that has less. Unfortunately it's pretty much panel lottery and sometimes you may have to go through multiple replacements until you get one that is normal.

Personally I would get a replacement, if you get another with bad glow you should maybe think about a different model or going for a different panel type.

I have a nice panel, Acer XF series 1440p 144hz IPS, and it doesn't look like this at all (my background is already black on that PC (also says Activate Windows on the bottom right ) )

That's definitely not normal for that monitor, I don't see really any reviews about it having that sort of issue. I'm pretty sure the left side of your monitor is backlight bleed not glow, so definitely replace it, I bet you'll get a new one that's nowhere even close to that.

I am contacting Amazon for a replacement right now. I hope the replacement will be good.

 

When you said the left side. You meant the top and bottom left side?

its backlight bleed, thats why its in the corners, all IPS panels have it, its only worth replacing if its noiceable when the monitor isnt displaying really dark scenes.

The majority of that looks to be IPS glow because the different angles the pictures were taken show different amount of 'glow'.

 

The bits that dont change in size or intensity are BLB.

 

As others have mentioned, BLB and IPS glow amounts are part of the panel lottery, Manufacturers neglect to give any guarantees on 'uniformity' which encompasses BLB and IPS glow, so your only way to find out if a specific Display model is susceptible to 'bad' amounts is via reviews, or 1st hand experience.

Right now surfing on this forum with night theme I don't notice at all, but I will notice the glow or backlight bleed during post when I see ASUS logo and a black scene or imag show up.

My camera sucks, its a black screen with very little bleed at all - I can manipulate the bleed however I noticed with a camera via angle.  This is straight on.  Since yours is curved is it more pronounced?

I don't know. My friend has an IPS monitor and he said if I want to get an IPS monitor, I should check if mine has IPS glow or backlight bleeding which is common for IPS from his point.

If there is any glow in my monitor its only noticeable with the camera, and on the right side (zoomed in a little, that's my mouse cursor in the middle'ish)

Weird. You should at least have IPS glow with IPS panel or maybe your camera didn't pick it up or idk.

 

I contact Amazon and Amazon approve my replacement request, and the replacement unit will arrive this week Saturday. Cross my fingers this replacement one is not going to have any defective crap.
