Online involves shipping cost which will drive up the price massively, especially if you're buying full towers which are expensive to ship. A computer that might otherwise be free will suddenly cost $50 because that's how much it costs to ship to you. There's also a larger pool of customers to appeal to online, so that can drive prices up further as well.

Try to find local deals that you can pick up to avoid unnecessary shipping costs.

What's your budget and what do you want to do with the PC?

why dont you just look at local free ads, or build your own tower, lots of diy tower builds out there and its just an easy box to make.

also try contacting local stores that deal in repairing pcs and selling pcs

garage sales are another way to get them cheap. I've bought old pcs from schools for $5-10 working and with peripherals.

Go to a recycling center. Go to a store and ask. Ask a company who they send their electronic recycling to.

But the kind of stuff you'll get is between 5 and 10 years old.

If you want something "Salvageable" you're more likely to have a good look with grabbing stuff from the recycling room in a large apartment/condo building. As stuff ends up in those rooms all the time that is completely salvageable, but people are just too lazy/don't-care who picks it up.

the cheapers way was normally to buy company scrap, so f.ex. normal desktop computers, but they are dying since most use laptops today..

you could get thinkcentres quite cheap and with a decent used GPU you had something great to game on, you could flip for a decent price.
