depends on features you need, but Asus X570 TUF or Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite are enough

If you're going for 3950X, I'd say go for one of these two in that price range. Gamers Nexus had some good reviews of them with the 3950X and they have good features for the price. But you can also find boards for $200 or less that will work as well just make sure it has good VRMs and preferably has been tested thoroughly with the 3950X.

Mmm... there’s a fairly strong argument for x470 or even a couple of b450s. Assuming you can get the 3950 bios onto one.  The issue is the motherboard fan on x570.  I still don’t know why they felt moved to put proprietary motherboard fans on every x570 board under $600.  It’s beyond obnoxious.

 

the high end x570s are Noice though.  Plugging a $750 cpu into a sub $200 x570 mobo May be a false economy.  A high end x470 will be a much better board (lacking something possibly really important features)

Both motherboards look very good but as @Bombastinator said the motherboard fan in a problem... I’ve used the Aorus master board in another build but the problem i have with that motherboard is the noise from the pub fan. So is there a possible x470 with Bios flash without cpu that can handle the 3950x. I could probably get my hands on a Ryzen chip that could flash the board but I’d prefer it just be cpu independent because that is an extra cost and more parts to worry about. Any suggestions would be nice... for a bit of context I’m building an editing rig for myself and so far the 3950x is a very good result. Since I’m editing it might be useful to have access to the pci m.2 gen 4. So maybe a quiet X570 kinda like what @Jurrunio said. Thanks in advance

There are a lot of systems that can arrange a bios flash without an older cpu being required.  The bigger question is can you get a bios that can handle a 3950 onto a non x570 at all?  That I do not know one way or the other.

Hmm the other option is using the gigabyte mobo from other rig but I don’t like that mobo too much

I’ve never used Asrock and the board u linked looks pretty good but I’m always sceptival with new brands although I didn’t like trying out gigabyte tbh

My thought on which mobo is if you’re going to drop the kind of cash required for a 3950x it might do to buy that fanless x570 (there is one, I just can’t remember the name) even if it is overpriced imho.  My inability to remember the name is why I haven’t linked it.

Pretty sure the only fanless X570 board is the Aorus Xtreme and its $600+.
