Pc wont boot with xmp enabled

akaStrafe

pecs: i7 9700k, msi z390 a-pro, g skill ripjaw 3200 mhz ddr4 ram 16 gbs, rtz 2070, and a 1000w power supply. This has been bothering me for a while because my ram is only running at 800 mhz (400 in cpu z). Whenever I try to enable xmp or start it manually my pc just says previous overclock settings have failed and default settings have been restored. Im assuming I might need to overclock or increase voltage but am not sure. Any help would be appreciated as this is bugging me.

Have you updated the BIOS on your motherboard to the most recent?  If not, you should do that first then enable XMP and see if it posts at those frequencies/timings.

Also note - for gaming - Intel just released an article stating that memory speeds do not affect gaming performance.  Which a lot of folks found was quite a bummer when maximizing their systems for gaming.

Ive also done a minor overclock to my cpu and it is still stable, i only statt getting bsods or the your previous overclock settings have failed when messing with the ram. I also tried manually setting the timings and frequency but same thing occurs

Have you tried resetting BIOS? issue is extremely weird, at the least you should be running at 2133mhz I've never heard of anything like this before

https://www.aida64.com/downloads

Try doing the "Memory Read" benchmark in Aida64, once you open it click on "Benchmark" from the icons and then click on "Memory Read" then "Start", this should at least tell you if you're truly running at 800mhz, try not to have anything running in the background

Otherwise I really have no clue what the hell is going on, I would also suggest re-seating/switching RAM slots on the motherboard or trying a different set of RAM, it's possible the RAM you currently have is defective?
