What games do you suggest I play now that I have a decent rig?

CDC_Steak

After having suffered through 7 years of gaming on a work laptops at low/med settings (Money has been going on more "grown up" stuff) with around 30-40 FPS I have finaly rejoined the PCMR and got a decent rig (3600 ryzen, 16B Corsair 3200, Radeon 5700, M.2 SSD, 144hz Asus monitor) and would like some suggestions on what modern game I should test drive it with to get all the good feels from great graphics, gameplay and action.

Current Games I am playing:

The Outer Worlds

Rust

I look forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

BeamNG.drive is great fun, especially since you have a CPU with alot of cores, so you can spawn lots of AI traffic in. https://store.steampowered.com/app/284160/BeamNGdrive/

LTT's Resident Porsche fanboy and nutjob Audiophile.

Main speaker setup is now;

Mini DSP SHD Studio -> 2x Mola Mola Tambaqui DAC's (fed by AES/EBU, one feeds the left sub and main, the other feeds the right side) -> 2x Neumann KH420 + 2x Neumann KH870

(Having a totally seperate DAC for each channel is game changing for sound quality)

If you got the Xbox Game Pass deal with your new ryzen or rx 5700 like I did, I have to recommend Forza Horizon 4.  Also Halo Master Chief Collection launched today.  Both are free to play with the game pass, and you can buy it to own forever for a discount using the game pass aswell.

I'd also recommend modding the heck out of New Vegas and GTA V with texture mods and ENB's.  If you haven't played DOOM 2016 definitely give that a look aswell.  It's on sale on steam right now IIRC.

Personal Rig v3: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X | Noctua NH-U14S | Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro ITX | Zotac GTX 2070 8GB | 16GB G-Skill Trident DDR4 3200MHz | EVGA Supernova 750B | Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX

Peripherals: Sennheiser HD518 & Classic ModMic | Corsair K65 Luxe | Zowie EC2 | ASUS VG259QM  |  ASUS VG278E | Klipsch ProMedia 2.1

Call of Duty Modern Warfare - The new one?

Halo MCC - Never got into Halo, sounds like a plan.

Supreme Commander FA - Not played this, will check it out.

Half Life 2 - Played it many many times.

GTA V - Loved it - Completed it

Crysis - Classic

Skyrim SE - This a new version?

what sort of stuff are you into im personally into the more "micro manament games" as i call them so some of my faves are

cities skylines (spiritual successor to sim city)

factorio

satisfactory

prsion arcitect

planet coaster (spiritual successor to rollercoaster tycoon)

other games worth looking at on pc

you may aswell pick up a copy of GTA v since you can reguallt fine it for under £15 these days

if you want to dip your toe into modding deffo pick up skyrim or fallout 4 will give you a uniquie way to replay those games

I lurk a lot

Far Cry 4 should be a great start then since it was a pretty big jump graphically and control wise, I have had good fun on it myself.

As in Team Fortress 2? If you want an amazing single player story driven experience the other TF2 (Titanfall2) is an amazing pick.

You're pretty alone on it since Titanfall2 SP is pretty much universally claimed best first person shooter of the decade.

It is easily better than all the sci fi Call of Duty, the story, interactions, motion, controls all is pristine and amazing, easily one of the most satisfactory games I ever experienced.

I'm even kinda shocked to see someone bother replying the game is "bad" because this is the very first time I actually read someone speak bad of it in all these years from it's release, literally every time it got mention was to praise how good it is.

I fell out of love with COD once they started introducing Jet fighters....I mean really, some standard grunt is just gonna walk up to a fighterjet and start hot-dogging through buildings dodging heat seeking missiles.... just too much. Is the new one bettter?

I'd agree, and I'd put DOOM right next to it on the podium.  I can't really say the story of titanfall 2 holds up to how well DOOM's lore was re-done.  Titanfall 2 exhibits all the elements of solid storytelling, but the story itself is just passable.

Yes but then again it's really hard wrapped up everything in the same package, often the games that can excel in story will be lacking elsewhere.

I have recently played A Plague Tale: Innocence and it's pretty much perfect in storytelling but I still feel much more likely replaying Titanfall2 than it xD'

Cheers!

Haven't played Warhammer but I have played Rome II Total War, and that's a very good stress test for your CPU. I know you wanted your GPU to sweat but that'll give your CPU a run for its money too.

Yeah I was talking about the new CoD, looks fairly demanding. If you just want to see what your GPU can handle, something like Cities: Skylines would work. But keeping you frames at 144 might be a stretch, so some of the older titles maxed out would still look excellent without the frame tearing or lag.

will be a nice workout for your hardware too, especially if you install the high resolution texture pack...

I didn't even plan on playing this but I indeed was curious how good my PC would run it, then I got it this summer on a sale and have now over 1200 hours and pretty much don't play anything else currently ?

I think you're searching for something like on the list I will present below.

Bear in mind I haven't played any of those. For some yet, for others not really.

I leave real opinions to people who actually tried those titles, hopefully some will give you their insight.

Anyway, here goes:

  • The Witcher 3
  • Metro: Exodus
  • GTA V
  • Rise/Shadow of the Tomb Raider (winter raider vs jungle raider)
  • Battlefield V
  • Assasins Creed: Odyssey
  • Destiny 2
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Dishonored 2
  • Shadow of the Colossus

Doom was $5.99 on Steam throughout the past week. Back up to $19.99 right now on Steam. However, 8 hours left at GameBillet for paying just $4.44...

9 hours left to pay $5.40 at GreenManGaming... Doom at GMG.

As for games to recommend for the creator of this topic, pick any game you see on a big time sale and call it a day. You just missed most of the deals during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Can't go wrong with The Witcher III. The base game always hits $11.99 and the GOTY Edition with both expansions always hits $14.99. Look for them to do so around Christmas time.

Thank you all for the tips!

I have a subscription to Xbox Game Pass and Origin Premier so will be checking out a lot of stuff on there. I also have about 200 games on Steam which it turns out includes Doom and NMS so I am going to smash some of that too. I will get around to some otehrs once those are dealt with...!

Thanks again all. ?

Hey!

I 100% agree with anyone saying Half Life 2. That game has literally lasted throughout the ages as one of my favorite games ever!

Some other good older games:

F.E.A.R

Condemned: Criminal Origins
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
Portal

Doom 3
Team Fortress 2
Counter Strike GO

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
