I5-9600k vs ryzen 7 2700x

I gather the i5 is much better. I’m a bit new to this but would the i5 be compatible with the following specs:

 

2060 super

16gb ddr4
gigabyte AORUS b450

With a B450 board, you would be looking at a Ryzen based system.

The i5 9600K is not much better.

 

The i5 9600K is not compatible with a B450 Chipset Motherboard either.

 

You should probably consider a Ryzen 5 3600 with the specs you mentioned above.

Only if you were planning to do a lot of multi-threaded workloads.

So on pc specialist they don’t seem to let me add Ryzen 5 3600 only 2600. Any ideas why?

Skip Intel 9th gen; only chip worthwhile is the 9900k and it's too expensive for what it is.

 

Grab a Ryzen 6/12+ any generation and be happy.

I will echo the above, only AMD Socket AM4 processors will work here.

As for the configuration well i say go for the 2600 if you are into gaming or the 2700X if you want to do streaming.

Though at its current price the 2700X is quite the catch!

Not an absolutely perfect comparison because of cache levels and etc., but there's about a 12% improvement in instructions per cycle on the 3000 series Ryzen over the 2000 series. If you're mulling over the idea of getting an 8-core Ryzen chip, the 3700x at $329 is 32% more expensive than a 2700x at $249, but only offers about 12-14% better performance. Just something to consider. The 3600 is a really good deal at $194, as long as your workload doesn't need as many cores and threads.

At this time the $119 Ryzen 5 2600 is the best value for gaming on a mid-range GPU and reasonable frameate (~100 or less, most games).

 

Earlier I would recommended the $139 2700, but it's not on sale anymore.
