That is the sad part.

There is no upgrade for you or me.

I want 6ghz.

That's not too much to ask is it?

Someone mentioned it above, but the enthusiast market is relatively small.  They would be best served taking back the mid range (if they can!).  Ryzen 2600 and 3600 have absolutely gut punched intels mid range.  I had an i5 for a long time that served me well that at the time was the no nonsense, easy solution.  Need a PC that can do a little of everything, game pretty well, affordable? Buy an i5 (back then).  That's where the vast majority live.   And AMD came along and took intels lunch, ate it, and peed on their shoes with the 3600 (and to an extent the 2600 before it which was also a beast of a mid range cpu)

My group of friends that have played games for now over a decade together were on i5's for a while.  A couple of us are on high end stuff now.  The majority of the group are either still on their old i5's or have upgraded to a mid range, reasonable option in the low 200$ range in terms of CPU.  The HEDT stuff or parts adjacent to that bracket are for people with a business that needs it, or people that just want the very best.  Most people want a CPU that will do the job.  Intel needs to do alot of work in a couple areas, but the "i5" category buyers are mostly running to ryzen right now (for good reason), and they should start by focusing on that massive group of buyers.

Every shot fired by one company vs the other improves our buying power.  The difference between an affordable or a high end PC right now vs last year at this time is crazy, and its all because of good competition.

Bravo, AMD; and thank you

On Desktop not really, with exception they continue to cut cost of their CPUs and in a turn-around become the budget brand for awhile.

That said i don't expect them to lose the low-power, high end laptop market, even on older nodes they have good optimization there which is hard to match, especially if R&D from Xe is also helping them improve and upgrade their lackluster integrated graphics to bring it up to Vega 11 or better levels.  They would lose too much stake if they lost a hold in laptop market, so i expect them to really focus on that so far as consumer grade products go.

When will we see portable Gpu's from Radeon that actually have their own VRAM, etc. etc. Will that come from the Vega seires, like the Vega 16's or 20's? )r the Radeon 53 and 5500 series cards?

BTW how does the Ryzen threadripper 3960x and ryzen 9 3950x stack up against the I9 9900KS, I9 10920X, and I9 10980XE in gaming performance?

After the launch of 3rd gen Ryzen 9's and Threadrippers, I really have doubts about intel's future as a competitive processor manufacturer (As do many others).  However, I managed to find a roadmap of intels new 10th gen, 14nm processors. They are definite, logical improvements over current, ninth generation processors. The 14nm processor has another + tacked to it, brining hopefully better per thread performance and new architecture upgrades. Also, the HD graphics 7th gen is featured on these chips, hopefully thats good news to budget gamers (i3 10100 and 10300 buyers). I also took note of the increased  L3 cache, and... different socket... Someone is gonna need a new motherboard. But the better news is that it also has more cores and hyper threading throughout the lineup, which should bring intel closer to matching AMD in multi thread performance throughout the lineup. But is it good enough? Maybe, I think that Intel still holds the lead in single core performance, and more cores and more hyper-threading can only help close the gap to AMD's equivalent chips. The i9 and i7 may be good enough to close the gap with the r7 and r9 (3900x). However, with 4th gen ryzen coming soon, I doubt how long they can hold a lead. However, in June, ice lake will be released. The 10nm architecture could be quite competitive assuming that intel holds their single thread advantage, high core clocks, and 4-6-8-10 core lineup. I am interested to see if anyone shares my views. A lot of people say that intel is dead, but is it really? Sure now it has lost it's lead, but I am sure that the future holds potential.
