Sound bar for new TV

My new TV(LG B9) will be arriving on Friday and I am sure that I will need external sound.

 

The TV will be on a 72" X 30" table so the sound only has to be local and not room sized. 

My PCs use Corsair - SP2500 2.1 speakers and I am ok with that sound quality but I don't know what a modern equivalent would be. 

Any help would be appreciated.

The yamaha YAS-109 packs excellent sound at a very good price.

I was looking at Yamaha.

The down side is that there seems to be no stores in my area that carries them so I will have to buy without listening to one.

I understand your concern. 

 

I prefer Yamaha products because they're bright and crisp. Overall, a very balanced sound signature, albeit with just the right emphasis on mid-tones. For that reason, you'll have very clear vocals when watching videos or gaming.

 

I hope this helps. I know Amazon has a good return policy, so you could always return it if you're not happy...

The issue with Amazon is that everything is full price! And the market is flooded with sound bars and TVs. So if you can find a discount audio store in your area, you'll easily find an older model for half the price of Amazon. I know that Canadians have Visions Electronics, but Americans should have something equivalent.

I will have time to look since the sound of the B9 is a lot better than I thought it would be.  

It is fine for games and TV viewing but lacks range for the music and movies. 

 

All the TVs and monitors that I have bought since 2006 have had terrible audio. 

This is sort of refreshing.

I miss my Polk Audio Soundbar 5000 so much. It was shockingly good for the measly $250 CAD I paid (at Visions). Going back to a small TV with the built-in speakers is torture. I just can't sit through a movie anymore. The atmosphere is all lost. But sadly I had to get rid of it in the move from Canada to Paris (couldn't find stable work in Canada, had to leave).

I know what that is like. I lived in the US, then the UK and then back to the US. 

There are lots of things I had to sell that I could do with now.

Come to think of it, you may want to check out Crutchfield. I've had a good experience with them.

I went with Yamaha but a MusicCast Bar 400. 

At a later date I would like to add additional speakers for pandora listening and it has an analog input just in case I what to plug in some old stuff.
