60hz laptop on a 144hz monitor?

Hello, so i have a 60hz laptop, and i am planning on getting an external 144hz monitor to game on, will this work? Or the monitor will be capped on 60hz?

Depends on the port you're connecting from on your laptop. Is it HDMI/DP that supports 144Hz at that res? On both sides?

laptop: Hp pavillion 15, 1050ti 60hz

Monitor: samsung crg50 144hz va panel

The monitor should support it, because it has HDMI 1.4

Do you have a specific product number for the laptop? The product number should be on the back of the machine and should look something like this: "15-cd015nd" or similar

Your laptop and the monitor both have HDMI 1.4, which means in theory they should both be able to run the display at 144Hz.

I can't guarantee anything though; I have often seen monitors or laptops not adhere to these standard numbers.
