Upgrading The Fan In My Power Supply

Hello everyone, I have a ANTEC 1300w HCP Continuous Power PSU, The fan does not spin anymore and needs to be replaced. I was hoping perhaps someone here might know if I can use one of my leftover red AeroCool Dead Silence 140mm fans, with a slight bit of customization. Being this is a pretty high current PSU I was really looking for someone else's opinion about swapping the fan out. Thanks everyone & anyone ?

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that but I suppose it's possible.

Cool, I am just a little curious what would make you feel uncomfortable about doing that? Is it the high current  danger of opening the PSU or would it perhaps be something like the danger of the new fan inches away from all insides of the PSU?

I personally do not have the expertise to do such a project but I imagine others do.

You need to replace the fan with another that has similar or BETTER technical properties : CFM (airflow, amount of air pushed through the psu) , Air pressure  , maximum rpm

You can't just put any fan, because the psu may have the fan hardcoded in the sense that " oh, the temperature is 70 degrees inside, therefore I must spin the fan at 1000rpm because I know that at 1000rpm the fan will push this much amount of air cooling me"  - but your new fan may push much less amount of air at 1000rpm, so the psu will never cool enough and will overheat.

The fan is Delta AFB1312M  - 135x135x25 , 12v @ 0.38A (4.56w) ... you can see a picture of it here: https://www.kitguru.net/components/power-supplies/zardon/antec-high-current-pro-platinum-1300w-psu-review/4/

eBay has them between 8.5$ and 25$ - who knows if they're genuine Delta.

You could probably replace it with a 120mm fan, but it would have to be a high end-ish one

Look for something that puts above 80 CFM.

I'd suggest these:

16$ : https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/delta-electronics/AFB1212SH-F00/603-1336-ND/2560460

13.5$: https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/sunon-fans/EEC0251B1-000U-A99/259-1479-ND/2021107

10.7$ : https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/sunon-fans/MEC0251V1-000U-A99/259-1470-ND/2021098

the new fan I have is much better tech spec wise, I am not worried about the tech spec part but I am worried about perhaps a fire due to the material of the new fan or something like that. The new fan is the same thickness and weighs a little more than the old one.

Anyone out there think this will work safely?

here is a link to the website for the new 140mm fan:

here is a link to the PSU.... mine is the 1300 watt model:

64,9 CFM is less than 80CFM, contrary to what you may believe. That would make your fan worse.

That fan is optimized for low noise, and doesn't push enough air.

Its specs are these :  1000 rpm 65 CFM 1.21mm h20 pressure.  That's really low small pressure, even the grill on the power supply will reduce this fan's efficiency.

The original Delta goes up to around 2400 rpm and probably goes over 100 CFM at 12v and the air pressure is way higher.

Below 500w, the fan will run at around 600 rpm - that's 1/4 of the max rpm ...

If you go over 1000w in power consumption, the 1000rpm fan may not push enough air to keep the psu cool and even before that threshold, the psu will probably be 5-10 degrees warmer than before.

The new fan may be expensive and fancy looking, but you're paying for silence, not to push air. You should NOT use that fan with such high power psu.

yes i know 64.9 is lower than 80 strange enough the box I have here actually says it does 96 CFM  so.... now clicking on their link it does indeed say  64.9 on the website but the box in my hand right now does say 96 CFM.... I will just buy a different fan all together now. i dont trust these ones I bought online, very strange..... Thank you guys.... really appreciate it
