Gaming build

Looking for the best CPU and MB for gaming.   Would be using a 2080Ti at either 4k @120hz or 1440p @ 144hz.  RAM and storage would be dependent on the cpu/motherboard.  This would go in a mid or full size case and use a custom loop for cooling.

No budget and I built the 9900k over a year ago.  Was hoping to build something to replace it.

9900k isn't an outdated chip by any means

There isn't anything faster and likely won't be for at least 2-4 years.

I enjoy building them and haven't got to do it in a year.  Probably that longest I've ever gone and was hoping for something new.  Would the 10980XE be an upgrade if overcloked?

You can buy a 3950X if you just want to have 16 cores. Just needs 3600mhz RAM CL16 RAM.

If you want something to treat yourself and just splash the cash then Threadripper 3000 might be your CPU. Won't give you any extra gaming performance..but multicore performance is on another planet.

 

It'll be launching tomorrow, so if you really have a hunger for building a new PC..I think Threadripper 3000 fills that perfectly.

Might be worth it.  Will have to see how the new TR chips do in gaming.  Don't want to take a huge step back so will wait for some reviews.

Decided to go with this build plus an additional 360 rad and new block for the cpu.  Just have to wait for some of these parts to come available.

Made some changes.  Will use my existing Seasonic Ultra Platinum 1000w and move an EVGA G3 1000w into the 9900k system.  Also decided on a 4x16GB kit of ram.   The 2080Ti w/water block, pump and the two 360 rads will move to this new one, plus an additional 480 for the front of the case.  I will just throw my old 1080 Ti and along with a Corsair H150i into the 9900k system.  Hopefully that can get me enough cooling capacity to OC everything.

 

Curious to see if everything comes in before Christmas.

Not really much money for a hobby.  But yes, hobbies are a waste of money if you look at it from a pure financial perspective.
