Hmm.. info came out of Musk’s mouth apparently. Info from that location has been found to be suspect before.  I suspect there were engineers at tesla doing facepalms watching that

 

electric cars are heavy just from the batteries.  They would be quite ponderous if the weight wasn’t so low.  This thing is going to be more heavy.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I watched myth busters try it and fail.  They were quite surprised too.  Apparently the only solution is to allow the car to fill with water to equalize the pressure.  It was a really cool episode.

They failed using keys, a phone, and a boot.

 

But an actual window breaking hammer worked just fine. A Spring loaded center punch can also work.

apple's bad design being copied is not a good thing though 

 

 

 

personally i really dislike the design, hell gta vice city cars had more poligons than this, the other 2 trucks coming from the other 2 companies look much much better, with one getting the function before form just right, and the other one is enough  utilitarian while being gorgeous

It’s all opinion based technically but what it is does do is make it so anyone can say hey that’s a Tesla truck and it’s electric. When they see it on the road. The other trucks can be mistaken for a gas and pass on by

Sheep is amazing vehicle for what it does. (Bog crawling)  The problem with the sherp is almost no one ever needs to do the stuff the sherp is good at, and the stuff it’s not good at its very bad at.

 

i think one of the problems is they got the definition of “bulletproof” horribly wrong. A “bulletproof” civilian vehicle doesn’t turn bullets, it means it is reliable.  It takes abuse and keeps working. Like a “bulletproof server”.

The design is polarizing. BUT it's because its new. It's something 'Out there' right now and its not normal. People hate changes from normal. Its always been the case. Initially everyone one was extremely skeptical and weirded out with the design including me (my reaction to the live stream was what the fuck is that thing??!). But the design has started to grow on me and if I was in a market for the truck, I would be sure as hell interested in this.

 

It's the same effect Apple had with Airpods and iPhone 11 Pro. People made fun of it, made memes about it, but now it's the new normal and everyone just copies it. 100 percent sure the same will happen and if you want, i'll get back to you in 2024 or something when this is on the streets.

 

I personally love it. It started growing on me quite a lot and the design is practical because it's structurally extremely strong and much cheaper to manufacture. Ony Elon and Tesla have the balls to do something like this in the auto industry and im glad they did. Let the new era of designs roll in and it's time we go into the future that other companies have only teased us in their concept cars.

 

Also update from Elon, there's already 146,000 preorders for this thing. Granted everyone won't buy, but that many people are interested in it and there you have it. And I'm sure the orders will continue to rise because there are a lot of people, like me (MKBHD also, check his new video) who started liking everything about the truck after a while and actually now considering to buy one

Not exactly. Aerodynamics is actually weird, and smoother curves doesn't always means better. Look up boxfish. It is extremely aerodynamic for an boxy figure. That's also how the Semi is able to achieve a lower drag coefficient compared to Bugatti Chiron

The people that actually use a truck for what it's meant for, work, don't want an electric one. Charging batteries is too time-consuming especially in remote places with iffy power, having to get the vehicle serviced at a Tesla dealer is not reasonable when it might be a 300 mile round trip or more,  there are a lot of reasons this is ultimately just a city vehicle. Someone that drives a truck to their suit and tie office job will want one, farmers/ranchers will avoid it like the plague; It's not practical enough and electric vehicles are not really compatible with spontaneous jobs because of battery charging times.

And $100 per reservation, how many of those are serious? I bet a large chunk of those are people who coughed up $100 just for internet bragging rights, and have no intention, or the means, to follow through with the purchase.

I am still not sure about the looks. It looks pretty futuristic which is cool but it just doesnt fit the rest of the tesla line. All other cars are about smooth lines and soft curves.

Well, it was never about marketing the truck as an electric truck is what Tesla had in mind. It was to show that electric trucks are better and hence should be considered because there still is a significant amount of people who think electric cars are like golf cars

 

Charging batteries are getting faster and faster with time. We can already get a significant amount of miles with a 20 minute supercharger top up. Also electricity can be obtained from a variety of sources like solar and wind, so if you're living in the middle of a desert, going electric would be better for long run than depending of gas pumps (the infrastructure is already there, hence might not be a problem, but in a case of natural disaster or some issues, you might not get fuel)

 

Vehicle Servicing? It's pretty much a battery and motor with an exoskeleton. There's nothing much to service about it frequently. Nothing to do with engines, oils, gears, etc.

Initially I was pretty shocked with the design. But two days later and that last picture, Elon and the truck, just looks insane and I want one even more

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.
