How to spend €700

Hello, 

 

I am looking to upgrade my current rig. I have about 700 euros to spend on upgrades. I was wondering what would be the most cost effective way to upgrade. 

CPU: AMD FX-8320 

GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB

PSU: 850 watt

RAM: 16 GB

Storage: 3 256 SSD

R5 3600 + MSI B450 MAX (tomahawk, a pro, gaming plus or mortar) + 16Gb of ram (3000/3200MHz) for around 400€.

 

What's your PSU brand and model ?

go with the cookie cutter ryzen build

 

Ryzen 5 3600                                                           ~180 Eur

B450 board(find a board that is zen 2 ready)           ~100 Eur

16gb ddr4 ram                                                         ~50-80Eur

1tb HDD                                       

Im with the mentaility of "IF IM NOT SURE IF ITS ENOUGH COOLING, GO OVERKILL"

 

CURRENT PC SPECS    

CPU             : Ryzen 5 3600 (Formerly Ryzen 3 1200)

GPU             : ASUS RX 580 Dual OC (Formerly ASUS GTX 1060 but it got corroded for some odd reasons)

GPU COOOER      : ID Cooling Frostflow 120 VGA (Stock cooler overheats even when undervolted :()

MOBO            : MSI B350m Bazooka

MEMORY          : Team Group Elite TUF DDR4 3600 Mhz CL 16
STORAGE         : Seagate Baracudda 1TB and Kingston SSD
PSU             : Thermaltake Lite power 550W (Gonna change soon as i dont trust this)
CASE            : Rakk Anyag Frost
CPU COOLER      : ID-Cooling SE 207
CASE FANS       : Mix of ID cooling fans, Corsair fans and Rakk Ounos (planned change to ID Cooling)
DISPLAY         : SpectrePro XTNS24 144hz Curved VA panel
MOUSE           : Logitech G603 Lightspeed
KEYBOARD        : Rakk Lam Ang

HEADSET         : Plantronics RIG 500HD

Kingston Hyper X Stinger

 

and a whole lot of LED everywhere(behind the monitor, behind the desk, behind the shelf of the PC mount and inside the case)

get the r5 3600 as described.
Flip the gtx 1060 on ebay. If you don't mind used hardware, get a used 1070ti or vega 64 or something at that price range, depending on the money you have left

Here you go.

Forget about 3600 because you can save around 50-80 euro by going with 2600, which is a bit slower. But on the upside, it leaves you enough money for a powerful video card so you'll get better performance in games.

You can also sell your current card and get back some money. In a year or two, you can upgrade to a 3900 or something, the motherboard can handle it.

Also if you find around 30 euro or so, you could get a higher end cpu cooler, the stock one that comes in the box is very decent but a bit noisy when it goes at high rpm. For the start, to fit in your budget, it's good enough.

if he sells his 1060, the money should be sufficient for this build.
The 2600 is a lot slower in gaming performance than the 3600. It does make a difference

If he can function without a PC for a couple of days until the parts arrive from Amazon, then yes, by all means... sell the 1060 and order the parts from Amazon with 3600 instead of 2600.

The motherboard I chose is a recent model which supports from the factory the 3rd gen Ryzen processors (the MAX in the name is a hint, the boards with Max in the name were released after Ryzen 3rd gen were launched) so all the components in the list are still valid.

You may squeeze a tiny bit more performance by going with 3600 Mhz memory instead of 3200, but if your budget is tight 3200 is good enough.

Still, to be complete, here's a couple suggestions for 3600 Mhz :

I think these Crucial RAM-s would be the most suitable for a Ryzen build:

Ballistix Sport LT 2x8Gb

Buddy of mine managed to run these Crucials at 3600Mhz with CL16 timings with 2nd gen Ryzen (2600). Tested them in Intel Z390board with 9600k, and they did 3733Mhz CL16 and 3600Mhz CL14 without hassle! Mikron-E RAM-s are very good budget friendly options

 

A more capable cooler than the stealth:

SilentiumPC Fortis 3 

Life is really challenging. I don't always suceed: )

what do you use the pc for, without knowing what you use the pc for then there is no point in recommending anything at all to you

I use this pc basically only for gaming.

This question still stands as your PSU could be a problem if it's too old or bad.
