Posted November 14 · Original PosterOP Hi guys, I just need a few advice if I should upgrade my CPU or GPU first. I am upgrading because I felt like my PC was aging (LOL) and needed an upgrade, also I like PC building projects I mostly game on my computer and do a little bit of web development as well. I play games like Monster Hunter World, Starcraft 2, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed. I just want to get a upgrade that would last at least 2 years again because it's really hard to find some good deals here in my country (Philippines). CPU: i5-6600k CPU Cooler: HyperX212 EvoMotherboard: MSI Z170 Gaming M5Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2400 MemoryStorage: 2TB Seagate, 256GB Samsung SSD Monitor: Asus VC239h (1080p)Video Card: MSI GTX 1060 6GBPower Supply: SeaSonic M12II Evo 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Power Supply Thank you in advance! I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B Primary PC: i7 8086k (won) - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Kill Trident Z RGB - Force MP500 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - The venerated Hyper 212 Evo (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G2 650W - Black and green theme, Razer branwashed me. Posted November 14 i wouldn't bother upgrading this yet either. GPU first, then maybe add more RAM if you need it. intel CPUs of that same socket are not compatible with older chipsets. (eg: you can't buy an 8800k and put it in a board with a z270 chipset or lower.) even if you have a BIOS update.
Posted November 14 Assassins Creed Odyssey, just like the previous AC titles, is quite taxing on the CPU. It really likes more threads. If the performance you get isn't satisfactory, I would first upgrade the CPU, but sadly, in some cases, that would require the motherboard to be changed too. Replacing only the GPU (or the GPU first) would yield mixed results - some games would profit, but most new titles wouldn't. Simply put, the 6500K would bottleneck a stronger GPU on 1080p in those games. It even does so now in some games. There's three ways to go with such a system. 1. a higher resolution monitor + a stronger GPU + an i7 6700K or 7700K 2. a new platform (CPU+MBO, eventually RAM) + a stronger GPU [and then later a new monitor] 3. upgrading only the CPU to an i7 6700K/7700K So, you choose, an expensive (used) i7 6700K/7700K that fits your system if you don't plan on upgrading the GPU, or a new platform with a CPU that has more than 4 cores.
