Intel 975X Chipset support SSD

Hello Fellow Linus Tech tips  buddies i have quite a challenging Build i have created

I have an MSI mother Board 975X platinum Power Up edition chipset 975X with an Intel CPU with E6600 Core 2 duo 2.4 GHZ with 4MB cache i have attached on it  WD hard disk Blue 500 and 1TB WD Green edition the question is can i attach an SSD to this PC, my thoughts y not as the SSD is a regular HARD disk and can attach on SATA cables :)  but the limitation might be with the chip set or controller i have attached my motherboard Chipset and the controller version.

appreciate you guys :)  as this challenge is quite challenging thanks for all the support

SATA is supposedly backwards compatible, so I dont see why not. It's not like Windows is particularly picky about controllers like FreeNAS

Sata 1 controllers are somewhat picky and some don't like Sata II or Sata III drives, the Powermac G5 had this issue.

OP, to answer your question, I've never had issues with LGA775 boards and Sata SSD's. The ones I have worked with all had Sata II which every modern Sata SSD supports.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

picky meaning that the controller might have a size limitation for the SSD

Picky as in it may not work at all, in the case of the Powermac G5.

But LGA 775 stuff is almost always Sata II from what I've seen

Yep! As I said, you should have no issues as LGA 775 boards are almost always Sata II anyways, Was simply clearing up a statement Jurrino made.

the 970 is a nvme drive, so it won't be bootable on there.

THe mx500 should work fine, might be a weird issue, so id buy it from someone that allows returns.

would look at something else than the A400 as its not a great SSD even among cheap drives.

depending on the location you might want to look at wd green or Inland Professional.
