I am so confused on my ram

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Okay so i bought 4x8 32gb ddr4 corsair vengeance rgb pro and was running at 2133 mhz but i wanted the 3000 mhz so i went to enable XMP as soon as i would click save and exit i would get a boot failure even if i manually did it (see first pic)

But then i got frustrated and said F it ill take 2 of the ram sticks out, so now its 2x8 16gb and i just enabled XMP and bam ! It actually worked ! Now my ram is running at 3000 mhz (see 2nd pic)

Now my question is, why does the 2 ram sticks work but not all 4 ? I have seen ppl post up that they are running all of they're 4 ram sticks to there full speed.

Depends on the cpu. Some cpu's, especially recent AMD Ryzens, have trouble running xmp speeds with 4 sticks.

I just put an I9-9900K

So what i am planning to do is just go back to best buy and get the 3200 mhz 2x16 32gb version of this same ram and pay the 6$ difference lol

Intel should have no problem running 4×8GB sticks, especially at such slow speeds. Have you tried to check each stick by installing just 1 at a time?

What is written on each sticker? What version are they?

It's easier to run 1 stick per channel then 2 sticks per channel. I don't know what your kit is rated for, but 3000mhz with 15-17-17-35 is really tight for anything other then B-dies, try to loosen the timings and set voltage to 1.35v

Not saying 15-17-17-17-35 is insane, but it's tighter then what Hynix A or Micron B can handle.

There is ver. #.## printed on each sticker, on the memory module itself. What does it say on each stick?

It says 4.32 on all of them

Yea, i have tried manually doing alot of things and i would always get a boot failure i watched so many youtube vids too. But i switched out the pair and its running fine too.

It stands for Samsung, if it's not fake) they should work fine together. what board do you have?

try installing the RAM in the slots 1 and 3, then remove and install in 2 and 4. If it fails, try reseating the CPU.

What the complete PC specs, even the Athlons can run 3000mhz

I don't think Hynix A-Dies are that bad...mine are running 3133Mhz with CL14 :D

They are just not as good as the Micron E, Hynix CJR and Samsung B and Ds

And i'm 90% sure it's a timing issue and nothing else, can you take a picture of the timings and subs.

Kay i put all 4 in and i got the boot failure

I see DRAM voltage is 1.2 V. Set it to 1.35 V manually.

Set Vccio and Vccsa to about 1.15 V manually, too.

This. If it still don't work, set tRAS to 42

Command rate is alreasy to 2T....

Try lower tRAS one step at the time until it's not stable anymore, 42 is high for B-dies it usually end up around 32 to 36

Unfortunately it will probably wind up resetting again in anywhere between a few days to a few weeks, unless you get lucky so I hope you surprise me.

You are not the first person to have issues with Corsair dimms running at XMP on the Gigabyte Z390 boards (specifically Aorus Master).

This issue has happened on some other boards also, and no one seems to know if the fault is with Corsair or Gigabyte.

As already stated this can usually be avoided by setting voltages and timings manually.  Do not forget that DDR Termination Voltage (DDR VTT) must be set to 1/2 of DDR voltage.
