disabling/enabling on board graphics

My 13yo son has made changes to his graphics settings using MSI afterburner
i have no idea what changes he's made but the graphics card no longer has a working display

the problem starts as windows 10 gets to the home screen

after looking for solutions on line, i tried to enable the on board graphics via the bios to uninstall the MSI app and now the computer runs oddly

the only change i made was to  enabled the on board display

when i saved and exited it restarted, then the power button flashed red and i the computer beeped a few times loudly

the computer eventually starts up but within a minute the CPU fan starts running at high speed and the on board display still isn't working

unfortunately, neither is the graphics card so i have no display whatsoever

do i need to remove the graphics card to use the on board graphics?

you could boot into safe mode & uninstall or reset msi afterburner

It sounds like the motherboard is...confused.

I assume that the weird behaviour with on-board graphics is unrelated, and that the cause of the issue your son is facing was that he forced the GPU clock way too high, and then told the computer to reapply that on boot (as is a feature in Afterburner).

I would try to reboot in Safe Mode and uninstall Afterburner, then see what happens.

i did try to restart in safe mode, both by hitting CTL F8 during boot and via shift restart after windows is up

i couldn't get it to start in safe move from the boot and once windows started, the display stops working

whatever is on the screen stays on the screen, distorted and flashing

that's why i tried to enable the on board

 

the problem with rebooting in safe mode now, i have no working display at all

the graphics card doesn't even work during boot.

could this be because i need to remove the graphics card

That sounds super not good.

I would, then, try to remove the card.

now, i'll just need to move it out of the room to be able to work on it

well, i removed the graphics card and the on board didn't start working, i replaced the card (in hopes it would force a change to the bios) and nothing changed

 

when i power on i get 3 loud beeps, 3 times. power button stay red flashing

no video out of the card or the VGA port on the motherboard

 

i'm stumped as to the next step

the PC is a HP z220 with the stock MB,i7 intel 14G RAM, the video card is a NVIDIA gtx 750

i bought it second hand and was working great until my son "adjusted" the setting with the afterburner app

Try resetting the BIOS via the jumper on the board, should be able to get an owners manual from the HP website. Once it's reset you should be able to get some kind of display from the onboard video with the 750 removed from the PC.

well, it's me again, had work commitments that kept me from spending any time on this until today

 

in the meantime i looked into what it takes to reset the bios on this particular PC

i've removed the video card

there's a reset button on the motherboard you hold down for 5 secs, no result same problem

i removed the battery for a couple of minutes and thought it came back because the unit didn't have a red power button and didn't beep

pressed the power button to start the PC and the problem returned

 

currently the battery is out, going to wait an hour or so

 

the current and persistent issue:

no display from the VGA port

power button is red and flashes 8 times unit beeps 8 times, sets of 2 with the short delay between

in about 20 secs the fan on the PS and the CPU fan kick in on high

 

currently looking at threads on HP support with similar problems but so far none end with "solved"
