Thinking of Putting Together a Pfsense Box

So I just want a router that I never need to unplug/reboot/thinkabout. I've installed pfsense before and understand how to do it unfortunately the internet speeds I was getting weren't great and haven't thought about it since. But, lately my 5ghz band has been dropping on my main router. So today I went over goodwill and low and behold what do I find? A tmobile branded asus router. So I hooked that up to see if my 5ghz woes go away. But, I was thinking of spending $100 on something like a nighthawk a few weeks ago. But, what if I bought a dell on ebay for the same price then setup my 2 spare asus ac routers as access points maybe keep the crappier one near all my wired stuff and the better one for upstairs where there currently is no ethernet? I could theoretically wire every single thing in my basement so don't need good wifi down there.

How big is your house that you need 3 access points?

Not that big. 1 does most of it well. Though if I have them why not?

Because your devices won't switch between each AP unless the power level of the signal drops low enough, which in a smaller home is unlikely, and you can't really configure that on consumer grade routers/APs.

Ah. Fair enough. Figured I'd just use the spare router as a 2nd access point but, I guess I could just get a long cable and find a power outlet somewhere near the center of the house.
