AMD FX-6300 temperature spiking

Go to solution Solved by flibberdipper,

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. AMD temp sensors suck donkey nuts. Case in point:

Help!

I'm having trouble with an AMD FX-6300 I just bought for my girlfriend. (She plays WoW mostly)

I paired it with a Zalman CNPS5X CPU cooler and I'm having trouble with the temperature.

I can feel the case getting hot from where the CPU is, so i installed a program called Speccy that someone recommended me to monitor temps.

This are the temps when playing Bioshock 2:  http://imgur.com/tVo9rgK,50M9jF2 that's hot

And this is a minute after closing the game. http://imgur.com/tVo9rgK,50M9jF2#1 wtf

This is so weird the temps go from 140c to 25c in less than a minute.

I'm worried about it I don't want to damage it. I am a newcomer to AMD CPUs is this normal or should I change the Fan/Thermal Compound? Maybe is a problem with the Motherboard. Help please!

Yea.. thats hot. Make sure you applied the heatsink correctly as well as the thermal compound. In case you aren't sure this is a credible video.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

What do other programs say the temp is?

It could be a bug with the program

It sounds like the temp sensor is broken, that's a trademark of AMD :P

Do you feel a lot of heat coming out of the back of the case?

But IT'S NEW T_T I will try other programs tho. I did the line trick with the thermal paste.

My Sempron apparently hits 201C sometimes... What cooler are you using?

Today I got to test the her rig again. This time on Bioshock Infinite. (Got to the first part where Booker meets Elizabeth and Song Bird chases them) and I got frame drops from time to time, they didn't last long tho. But I did get more programs to monitor CPU.

I don't know... what do you guys think about this: http://imgur.com/XW91rqA

Maybe the temperature reading thingy is broken like you guys said. But will that explain the performance loss? I'm genuinely curious.
