Yeah you'll be safe as long as you don't run around clicking every download link you see.

Yes, it's fine.

Windows Defender is pretty good for non-savvy users, usually you only need to replace it for a third party when you want to mess around with cracks, trainers and other software that comes from "grey areas" per se.

Additionally, Windows 10 has something called sandbox now that will let you create a quick windows 10 VM on your desktop to try out any Sketchy software.

Common sense rules here.

So far so good for me. No third party at all.

Third party will only eat up my rams.

Just watch out for nasty links, and always observe task manager for abnormal activities.

When thinking of security you should be mindful of what code runs on your system. You can trust most reputable software stores like Steam and obviously your operating system. The most common source of untrusted code is your web browser, so IMO if you want to lock down your system you should run a noscript browser add-on with a whitelist. That is, unblock websites you trust and frequent and block everything else. Also, obviously, don't run just any executable. That should get you quite far, as long as your point of entry to the Internet, aka. router, is up to date and doesn't expose ports to the interwebs.
