Overkill Monitors + Used Goods

FireChicken8137

Can someone PLEASE tell my friend that three ultra wide monitors is completely unnecessary and that buying refurbished tech items is actually not a bad idea at all? He keeps trying to flex on me with all of his overpriced sh!t.

To me it sounds like you're a little over-sensitive. Yeah buying refurbished tech items isn't a bad idea, but who cares? If your friend wants to buy expensive equipment that's his business.

Hey @FireChicken8137's friend, three ultrawides is overkill and used tech is good stuff mmmkay?

Feel free to forward my comments to your friend.

Or just flex right back... IDK.

UW monitors are not unecessary, and refurb tech has both benefits and drawbacks :D

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Depends on what you do. Average gamer? Absolutely. No need for it.

Productivity advocate who works in the compSci, Helpdesk, or IT world? Not at all. I've got 2 at work and 3 at home and I always feel like I'm running out of space. I highly doubt that is your friend though.

See, that depends on what you're doing and what your budget is.

$4k budget for just the tower? don't buy used shit.

$600 Gaming pc? get the best FPS per dollar and buy used when applicable.

Best way to beat a flexer is to 1v1 as Demoknight.

If you know, you know. /s

Show him it doesn't take expensive equipment to be good.

Yeah it depends greatly on what he's doing with it, maybe he's programming or something on the side, who knows.

Feels like I need a bit more context, all he does is basically play Minecraft, which obviously takes about as much tech as the pit of a cherry.

Then absolutely: the 3 ultrawides is unnecessary.

Then yeah it's unnecessary but if he wants it then he wants it. Still not a huge deal, it's his money.

If he wants a completely surround experience, I'd say three ultrawides is pretty necessary. A lot easier to get that with those, than with three 16:9 monitors.

Why are you so salty that he can afford it and you can't? Everyone has different lifestyles and what they find worth their dollar.

Some would say having a computer just for games is unnecessary and you should just buy a console.

Not much we can say or do that could help. People like this are usually extremely misinformed and don't like being corrected. Just ignore that part if he's worth as a friend, or find new friends that aren't going to bury their head in the sand. ?‍♂️

3 ultrawides is awesome. Used stuff is also awesome. I have 4 used monitors for my main setup, three 24" and one 30". It's awesome. Necessary? Meh, not per say. But I do have to admit that there are times where I think a 5th would be nice... (that was before I had the 30" one though (I had a 19" in that spot then), perhaps now this is finally actually enough. :D)

Your problem seems to be the flexing.  I smell a “this all started when Johnny hit me back” situation.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

There's an easy solution here buddy. When your friend is buying new gear unnecessarily for Minecraft and YouTube he'll be looking to sell off his old gear. Buy it from him if he's your buddy he'll give you a good deal. There, you both win.
