Will my toe nail going to heal or grow a new one?

Flying Sausages

Hey guys. I got tripped while walking around the house and broke one of my toe nail. Is this broken toe nail going to heal or grow a new one? It broke way to deep in that it is causing bleeding a little bit but now the blood is dry. I can feel pain if I try to broke off the left side broken toe nail in the picture.

Could you please, for the fucking love of god, put the image in a spoiler?

More on-topic, you might wanna see a doctor about it, but generally speaking, toenails will grow back.

i once slammed my pinky toe into a table at full speed at night and the entire nail fell off. i was sure that im going without a nail there for the rest of my life but it grew back to my surprise and relief. so im guessing the crack will gradually move out as new nail material is made and as you clip your nails it will gradually disappear

How long does it take for one of your toenails to grow back

It's like having a cracked nail. Can put a band aid on to protect it, but don't put it too tight, leave a small gap for it to breathe.

No real point in covering it up. Yes, it will grow back. No, it won't heal; your nail is already dead.

If you killed the nail bed, it will have to grow an entire new bed and nail and will push off the old one completely (will be potentially painful and long process in which you can just man up and remove the old nail with plyers - Ive done that once, hurts like hell - but takes all the pressure out of the equation in the growing process)

If you didn't, it will just eventually grow out unevenly until even.

I am not a big boy like you to yeet the toenail with a plyers. I am already scared to open a little bit and already felt a little pain sensation.

The motivation will come if the new nail grows in underneath your still currently attached rest of your nail.  Its either have the constant throb for a month, or remove the nail and after a day or two its like new compared and now you just keep it bandaided up so you don't bump your growing baby nail lol

But looking at your shmexy toe again, my unprofessional but through experience medical advice, is that you ripped the nail its not dead just trim it as much as possible to keep it from snagging on something and ripping more.  Eventually it will grow out

The nailbed is further medial to your toenail under your skin. The toenail grows outwards from there.

I'd recommend leaving the broken nail there otherwise when it grows in it might start going under the skin on the side.

Should I band aid to prevent infection or bacteria???

"A toenail takes 1 year to fully regenerate" is what my podiatrist told me. He also said it's much better to leave a broken toenail uncovered as a bandage will trap moisture and promote bacterial growth.

Speaking from real experience here.

I once broke the top half of my toe nail while playing football.
It was flapping, might be worst than yours.

I would not recommend pulling it out, there's NO NEED to.
Trim the excess portion carefully so that you would hit anything or get it tangle more with your shoes/socks.
Tape it down if you're wearing socks/going out to minimise further injury.

It will grow out in time and you can trim it would any further pain.

My half toe nail took 6 months to grow.

Your shit outta luck mate, damage like that is often fatal.  You'll probably die painfully just seconds before signing your will.

Could take a couple months for it to fully grow out. Everyone is different.

A bandaid won't likely do much to help. If it's catching on your socks or something, you could put some tape over it (or a bandaid), that way there aren't any sharp edges to catch. Don't rip the broken part off or pick at it, just let your body heal on its own.

You'll just have to give it some time.

being a ballet dancer on pointe, dancers i know have had their nails fall off, it grows back, it's just a little painful and takes time. either tape it or put something like 2nd skin on it, and trim as normal

if you're like me with toenails that grow like 1/8 cm a week it'll grow back in no time

It broke cause you didn't keep it clipped.  Do not rip it off like the jerk suggests. Very painful approach.. your body will heal itself in time...Trim it and keep the broken part safe with a band aid if you need to. If you're lucky you wont lose the whole thing.
