Google is being sued by the Australian Government

I have to disagree. I find those two statements to contradict one another.

That's because you live in the US.  Come to Australia and talk to a few people who work in those organizations.  It really is a hugely different system and culture.

You have to understand that the issues with our NBN cannot just be fixed,  it is not an issue that failed because the government ballsed it up, it is a essential infrastructure issue that the consumers can't afford.  google will not roll out fibre here because there is no money in it.  we just don't have the consumer base to give any company an roi.

Can’t even be done most places in the USA.  Countries are too big and unpopulated.  Has to be done at a loss like the way US railroads were constructed.  Well not quite like it.  That was a massive corruption nightmare.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

That may be, but Australia is still a fully capable member of the UKUSA Agreement. Despite appearances to the contrary, your government, your ISPs, and any large internet based business are under immense political pressure not only to not hinder Bulk Collection activities, but to actively participate in them.

In such a case, ordering a large website to stop tracking users is essentially just forcing them to lie about their collection and logging activities. At least with the status quo their collection activities are well known and visible.

ENCRYPTION IS NOT A CRIME

Except there are no hidden laws in Australia that force private companies to do anything for the government.
