AGESA 1.0.0.4. seems to improve performance,

Not sure if Intel still sits on the top on gaming performance after this, I wonder if LTT will do a retest or simply wait till 3950x comes out (considering AMD is planning to release up to AGESA 1.0.0.7 for performance increases).

That is a pretty hefty performance bump if it's just from updating to 1.0.0.4

Just keeping this here as a That for sure, but it would be more impacting if intel would be a worse pick for gaming than amd. Something Intel challenged AMD to beat them on, although either AMD does it with their AGESA updates or Intel with their security updates on meltdown et cetera.

Tried out the beta 1.0.0.4 AGESA BIOS from Gigabyte, it just results in instability with audio distortions followed by instant reboots. I'm sticking with 1.0.0.3 which has been completely rock-solid.

 

 

The 1.0.0.4b official release from Gigabyte has been working great, so I take back my above statement.

Personally I've seen a performance loss going from AGESA 1003 to 1004 (in some tasks and synthetics, yet to test gaming) boot times are definitely better but my clock frequency with auto OC+PBO = Mobo enabled on my x570 Aorus Master (mirrored pre updated settings) are very spiky and inconsistent whereas the previous behaviour was relatively smooth.

 

Thus I have lost approx 1-2% performance in Cinebench R15 with the average clock around 4.175 down from 4.25 - 4.3

 

hopefully AMD and Gigabyte will correct this, its similar overcompensation to the earlier AGESA revisions.

Sadly most games are optimized for nvidia during the development process due to marketshare.

 

Makes you wonder how much different the situation would be on AMD cards if games weren't artifically gimped out of the box.
