As a Corsair VS 650w 2012 (orange label) owner what is so bad with this PSU. Is it a miracle it's lasted 8 years or was it QA issues and I have an alright one? Was using a 3570k on it and now I've got a 8700k and a 1070ti.

lack of protections, very poor regulation, reports of dead and even some exploding units under heavy loads and so on

one person doesn't change the general picture, after all

Hello I currently have b700h 700w psu and I want to upgrade it. My pc is r5 2600x 2070super. Will Fractal Design Ion+ 760W Platinum be good for my pc? What is the best psu in ~700W range?

ask yourself 3 questions :
1. Why do you need a 700w psu.
2. it will be fine for your pc, just overkill
3. the best around 700w or the best for your bucks around 700w?

Well yes I calculated that my system is using 550-600W. And then I read some reviews that my b700h isnt a very good psu and I should def get a better one for a card line RTX 2700super. I need the best ~700W psu for 150$ or less. Fractal Design Ion+ 760W Platinum is 135$ where I live.

If it's cheapest PSU in the class (tier A gold color) then go for it.

How did you calculate the wattage to get this result? Have you used one of those wattage calculator sites? If so, they overestimate by quite a bit and they produce different results from site to site. Better look for power consumption of your CPU and GPU and just add 100-200W to calculation for motherboard, memory, storage, etc. The result that you'll get won't be very accurate but it doesn't matter because we still add quite a lot of spare wattage into the calculation and even then the wattage will be much closer to what your system will draw in practice compared to what those sites say.

For example, your AMD Ryzen 5 2600X will draw about 110W, your NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super -- 220W. Then add, let's say, 200W just to be safe and to have some headroom for future upgrades and we get 530W. So if you're looking for Ion+ (which is a pretty good unit), just pick a 560W model.

I just got back from my friends house who I built a PC for, he has the GIgabyte G750H and it is dead after just under 1 year of low load operation. He only plays basic games like WoW and there was no issues with airflow or dust build up. I swapped my PSU in to his case and his PC booted up fine, then put his PSU in my case and it wouldn't boot. The PSU is definitely cooked, what a shame.

Sometimes PSUs die without an apparent reason. For all we know, the fan could've died and the PSU finally overheated itself to death, a capacitor blew, or it was improperly stored in some warehouse with high humidity so it's lifespan was incredibly shortened. Shit happens.

Just RMA it, that's what the warranty is for. Sorry to hear that your friend's PSU died.

We took it back to the store and they refunded him his money and we got a RM850 instead. It was just very odd I have never had such new hardware die on me. I wouldn’t think that PSU would have ever had enough load to even have to fan turn on, it would’ve been lucky to see 300w power draw.

Hi,

Is the Segotep GP750G, 80+ Gold, 650W PSU also B+ tier like the GP500/600/700G which are in the tier list?

Here's how it looks on the shop page if that helps:

Otherwise the this is the overall build and some PSUs I found. If you have any recommendations on amount of power I'd need would be nice:

We don't know, no reviews of X50W versions but looking at these pictures, it's insides look completely different to what we see on GP600G. But maybe they just did the wrong render or just slapped a new label on some old PSU to make photos of it, who knows.

This build would be fine on good 450W even. But 550/650W would make sense if you want to be able to do some upgrades. So, if you will be able to return GP750G then you can buy it, do some photos of it for us to tell what platform it uses and then decide if you keep it or swap for GP600G.

Tier C • Recommended for iGPU systems

Silverstone | Strider Gold Evolution - Strider Essential ET-B / F-ES

Is the Essential ET650-B the same as the Strider Essential ST70F-ESB in terms of product tier? I can't find the Strider Essential here in Japan but I can get the Essential one.

No. ST-F-ESB is listed as just Essential Bronze in tier D. And i can't find anything on ET-B but it looks like group regulated too so it would be in tier D regardless. Do you have any Kuroutoshikou / KRPW PSUs there ?

How important is the transient response of 3.3v rail?

what will happen if the transient response of 3.3v rail is greater than 5%?

The only devices in modern PC that use 3.3V rail at all are ones on PCI-e bus, with NVMe drives probably being the most common ones, although i'm not sure to what degree they actually use that rail. RAM also should be powered from 3.3V rail too but on most modern motherboards there is dedicated VRM for the RAM anyway which converts power from 12V rail. So really, not that important at all.

What happens when voltages go out of spec ? VRM tries to compensate it and while MOSFETs don't really suffer from any damage, capacitors life may be shortened a bit, but modern motherboards also use solid capacitors pretty much for everything too, so it's less of concern.

Hello ! What's the difference between the Cooler Master MWE White/Bronze V2 MPE Full-Range Input and MWE V2 80+ MPE 230v only ? They both look the same but they are in different tiers. When I searched it up on Google, the Cooler Master site shows the same PSU

That isn't clear to us either but this changes nothing, 230V only versions go to tier B, full-range versions go to tier B+. The reason for that is that full range versions are technically more robust when it comes to 230V only regions with voltage drops even though they technically don't have to support lower voltage input. Full range versions also usually rated for lower wattage using the same components or conversely, use higher rated components for the same wattage rating because for 100-110V you need components with twice power rating than for 230V input on primary side. Exact implementation of course depends more on the platform as a whole though.

I checked the tier list a while back and bought Seasonic FOCUS GX-650, cause I got a hefty upgrade kit for free from a friend but PSU and GPU were not included.

Now Im running an overclocked i5-8600K and XFX Radeon RX 590 FATBOY on MSI MAG Z390 TOMAHAWK in a Coolermaster SG09 HTPC case. CPU is cooled with MasterLiquid Lite 240 and temps are in check.

Problem is that my GPU is randomly shutting down. It does it when I'm gaming and only then. It does not shut down the whole system, only cuts of the GPU so I loose the picture and need to do a hard reset. Even when running furmark and prime95 simultaneously for couple of hours, temps do not rise too high and no problems occur.

I have not been able to pinpoint the source of the problem.

Could it be that my Focus GX-650 is an old faulty version of that line?
