why is the g3 on the D list??

Tier D isn't 'explosive' tier, exactly as it's named, it consists of units that are not recommended because they may get you problems under certain conditions. But i don't see why you're fuming over EVGA G3, it's almost impossible to find right now and if you do, it will cost way more than other units of comparable quality if we ignore problems EVGA G3 has. Corsair RM(x) & Bitfenix Whisper in for example. It's EoL unit, EVGA doesn't produce it anymore.

and nor does superflower

many confuse the g3 with a leadex ii, while it's honestly closer to the III, which came out after

This is why I believe tier lists like this should exist. It ignores all presuppositions of certain brands and/or models, that are assumed to be, or claim to be, or are marketed as "top tier" products. Instead, it looks at objective, factual data so we can judge each product based on it's own merits.

The brand, model name and targeted market segment is irrelevant.

It doesn't matter if the G3 is "supposed" to be a top-tier model. The fact is; it has some issues (the seriousness of which could be debated), and there are plenty of better units available at better prices. So why have the G3 in a tier where it really doesn't belong with other products that are better quality and value?

I can see in some cases, someone trying to defend their choice if they're already bought a G3. But there's really no need to. It will be fine, for the most part. It's just that as of now, in the grand scheme, there are better options. Simple as that.

What's the definition of "high end" and "mid range"? I'm getting a R5 3600 + 2070 Super, which tier am I shopping from? (PCPP link would be great too, I'm not really good at browsing PSUs...)

i'd look around for a tier a+ if you can find one

tier a would be perfectly fine as well, but preferred to stay below 650w with them

Where are you from ? If it's US then look at 650W+ 80+ Gold semi\fully modular units, Corsair RM(x) or Bitfenix Whisper for example.

Malaysia, but currently shopping on Amazon US. The two models you suggested were easy to find! But I'm getting $40-50 in shipping + import fees, sadly

Well, you can settle on Corsair CX550 then, 80+ Bronze non modular but 25$ cheaper.

it all stems from this toms article about it: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/evga-supernova-850-g3-psu,4930.html and i want to do a correction as its been awhile for me. his issue was with OTP (over temperature protection). it was set high

Did you see this thread?

It looks like Luke is editing his linked articles in the tier list so it perhaps wasn't visible when you looked at the G3 placement.

Unfortunately the advanced tier list still links to the old list

Yeah that one links to this one but still

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I'm just another idiot needing confirmation.

Corsair AX850/AX1000 titanium on the list?  I believe it came out earlier this year.  I see AXI and earlier model AXs.

Thanks

Hey guys, can you please help me out?

It seems I have a problem with my setup: when I start certain games my PSU starts screeching and computer reboots. Before it reboots, if I Alt+Tab to desktop the sound will stop and will immediately restart when I tab back in. Furthermore It doesn't always happen with the same games, and it doesn't happen at all with certain games... I suspected faulty GPU but I'm 95% sure the screeching sound comes from the PSU.

I'm assuming its coil whine from a burnt out PSU so I decided to change/upgrade it.

Current setup:

  • Gygabite Z77X Mobo
  • i7 3770K CPU
  • RX 5700 XT GPU
  • eVGA NEX 750 B 80+ Bronze PSU (suspected faulty)
  • 1 SSD + 1 SATA HDD

Planned upgrades (eventually):

  • Asrock x570 Phanton Gaming 4 Mobo
  • AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6Ghz CPU
  • Add a M.2 SSD
  • PSU options I'm considering:
    1. BitFenix Formula Gold 750 W 80+ Gold (90$)
    2. BitFenix Whisper 750W 80+ Gold (100$)
    3. Seasonic Focus+ 750W 80+ Gold (105$)
    4. Corsair RM750X V2 80+ Gold (120$)

Thanks guys

PCPP links were a nice addition ! Only that i'd linked 650W (for tier A and up) \ 550W (for B+ and lower) versions where available as being the most optimal choice for most systems, makes comparing units in the list easier too.

Hi Luke, i will pair a new psu with a i5 9600k oced and a rtx 2080. Would a Gigabyte G750H (87$) or a Corsair CX650 2017 (80$) do the trick? The one i wanted, the Corsair TX650M, costs like 137$.

I really liked the gigabyte one for being a gold unit, but there are reviews that says it has blow up and fried everything, is it really a good unit?

Thanks for your time!

lemons will always be a thing... as far as i'm aware is g750h a downgraded CWT GPS, which shouldn't do that much in the first place

what do you have available at your pricerange for ~550w?
