Graphic Card Issue

Rani
Go to solution Solved by Rani,

I believe everything is fine now, pc has been running for over an hour now with no crashes. The fix was most likely opening up the gpu and changing the thermal paste, or rolling back the driver. Either way, everything seems to be fine.

Thank you for all the help!!

Hello,

Recently my games have been crashing in a similar fashion. It starts with a semi checkered pattern and both my screens go black then turn back on with the game crashed. With destiny 2 it gives me a pop-up saying  "Graphics runtime detected a crash or loss of device." I have uninstalled the drivers using DDU and reinstalled the lasted drivers to no avail. This wasn't happening at all yesterday and only this morning my only suspension is the most recent nvidia update. Any recommendations. lowered the frequency by 100 and checked the pcie pins. End result was still crashing. I had originally posted this on troubleshooting

Two updates happened recently, the nvidia 436.48 on the 1st and a windows "Advanced Micro Devices" on the 15th. I completely uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled as an attempt to fix it. I have know idea why were the drivers updated.

that already means something's gone wrong on the hardware side. I doubt it's a software issue

What kind of hardware issue would happen if I haven't touched anything in my pc?

ehhhh.......

thats only if there wasn't any software running , like if it was checkered in the bios before the os or anything loaded

The checkering only appears when a game is crashing. Nothing in the bios, during start-up and videos themselves, along with audio and colors all seem to be fine.

if you can i'd try an older driver and not use the latest and see what you get

the GPU itself dying, or the video memory on the card

without running software the GPU locks itself to idle clock, which is more stable than base clock that's used when the driver loads in.

yeah so if it artifacts with no software running then it's a hardware problem. once you add software then software becomes another link in the chain. which is why I can make any gpu artifact just throwing a car around in beam ng too quickly.

that being said he would have artifacts in video and immediately in any 3d application if the vram had a problem as that's where artifacts manifest.

I'll try using an older driver. If that doesnt work i do have a spare 1050 to also troubleshoot with, otherwise i'll have to get a new GPU.

Thank you for all the help!

Because that seems like a logical thing to do.

I would indeed suggest to try to install an older driver, perhaps multiple times if it doesn't work the first time.

Just to be sure, are the temperatures on the card okay? (also VRAM temperatures and such (if they are visible on a program like HWiNFO64))

That should be fine. 49c idle seems a bit high, but shouldn't cause these issues.

New features, improved performance in games, because manufacturers/developers always want us to update every single thing in existence, etc.

they had no issue until the update meaning you only update when you have an issue.
