1440p 75Hz recommendations

Vejnemojnen

Hello

About to purchase a 1070ti gaming MSI gpu, but still not convinced. Would it be suitable for 1440p& 75 hz for a few years to come? Price seems good enough (300USD, 14 months warranty). But I do not know whether it'd be a good investment or not.

My PSU is 450w, but should be enough (Bitfenix WhisperM 450). Or shall I aim for a 2060Su/5700?

Thanks in advance for any input. :)

A 1070ti can definetly give you 75fps at 1440p,depending on the game and the settings it can also be tough.

I remember someone here stating he was barely hitting 50fps in the Witcher 3 and AC odyssey in 1440p uw settings maxed out.

So, depending on what compromises you are willing to make a 1070ti COULD be a viable choice for some years to come.

Not too sure about your psu though. 450w might be a bit on the low end, on the other hand it might just be me as I tend to go pretty overkill on my PSUs ^^

Thank You.

I've purchased my psu around 2 months ago, but I'm sure it can handle 2060super or 5700 nonxt without problems.

I tend to be very much on the undervolt, power save side, simply bc i love quiet fans and low fan speed with cool gpu&cpu&vrm.

I guess I'll either buy the 1070ti, or go for a new 5700/2060S. Oh btw, I'm all obsessed with performance per watt values, therefore, I'd certainly prefer Turing cards.

Thanks for the contribution

These are typical prices for 1070ti cards. New 1660ti costs more, whereas they are less capable.

I can afford 5700, but I'm always very cost conscious when choosing components. And I'm only playing sporadically, like 3-4 hours per 1-2 week during winter and late autumn. ?

well 1070Ti still a good card, 1660Ti is just a bad value card and we know it.

well if you only play sometimes then spending as little as possible is not gonna kill anyone.

In the end I might even end up with a 1660ti, as, I don't have the display yet (still on 1080p 60hz), and, when I saw the efficiency of those, I was impressed : )

The rx 5700 blower cards can be had for around the same price as a 1660 ti and it'll perform much better, the rx 5700 is also very power efficient and can be undervolted for better power and thermals.

The RX 5700 blower cards are cheap for a reason, they are bloody loud and hot.

And some retailers in my area have the cheek to price them even higher than even custom AIB like the Sapphire Pulse.

Is this a used card? If it's a 1070, I would rather try to find one that was used for mining as those are the best price and mining of the card isn't taxing. If you're planning to buy a 1070 new, I wouldn't do it because as stated, rather get one that was used for mining for a super cheap price. You'll just have to flash the bios of the card.

Honestly, if you're looking for 1440P gaming, I would think about the RTX 2060 instead. 1070 should do fine on a 1440P @75hz, you'll probably run most 'triple A' games 70FPS or higher. If you're going 1440P @144hz, that might be a different story. But here's the thing... If you're going to go 1440P gaming, you might as well go with the 144hz instead of the 75hz. It makes a huge difference graphics wise and gaming wise. If you can't, why not just stick to your 1080P @144hz? Going 1440P and under 144hz is waste of mulu honestly. Unless you're just doing it for movies and netflix.

here's a refurbished 1440P, 144hz by amazon selling at $280 with freesync2.

Also, most 1440P @144hz monitor sells around the $300 - $350 price range. I see no point getting a 1440P @75hz for $300.

@c00face

? I never mentioned 1070. I was talking about a 300USD priced 1070Ti MSI Gaming. With warranty until 2020 december. The 1070-ies are cheaper by roughly 35-40 USD though.

For the screen display: I did not state what model would I pick. But preferably the cheapest reliable solution. Say, round 225-240USD :)

I'll consider staying at 1080p but with higher refresh frequency. Though as I've stated, I hardly play, and most of all: I never play shooters, fast paced games. Only RPG-s, occasionally RTS and seldom some sim racing.

Thanks for the ideas, there are Sapphire Pulse RX5700 cards for around 450 USD, those seem to be good value (cheaper than 2060s).

Need a little more detail on what you're trying to accomplish here. Cheap, affordable, quality? If you're mostly just playing sims, RTS, and RPG's... A 1440p @75hz would actually be great. And I'll choose that over 1080p @144hz.

$300 for 1070 ti msi with another year of warranty, sounds like a good deal to me. You can run 1440p @75hz with the 1070 ti pretty damn good.

Rx 5700, rtx 2060's, 1080 ti, all of these cards are meant for 1440P gaming at 144hz. If you aren't going to game using them to what they were specifically made for, why not just settle for the more affordable 1070 ti that can run 1440p @75hz just fine? And to answer your question, yes, 1070 ti can run 1440p @75hz for years to come just fine.

@c00face Techspot just reviewed the 2060Su vs 5700. I guess, nvidia would be a better option, simply because it's marginally more capable, and more power efficient. I'm very impressed by AMD-s effort with the new Navi cards, but, Nvidia IMHO still holds the upper hand.

But buyers will be delighted to see, that there is now actually COMPETITION within the entry-level and mid-range stuff. :)

I started off with a 1070 a few years back and was playing at 3440x1440 at 100Hz and it was great.  Personally I would upgrade your monitor to a 1440P 120+ Hz panel over getting a new card.  A 1070 Ti which is basically a GTX 1080 or RTX 2060 Super more or less

I don't think it's a good idea. I have a 1050Ti now. That's why I wanted to change to 1070ti, or 2060s/5700 in the first place : )

I have an asus strix 1070ti and use it for 1440p 144hz.  Ocing it basically makes it a stock 1080.

Battlefield 1 and 5 are what ive been playing and it works fine for those. In bf1 i get fps usually in the mid to high 80s on ultra in multiplayer. It varies a lot. Sometimes low 70s and sometimes low 100s.

If i wanna be a sweatlord i just put settings on high and get around 100 fps most of the time.

Destiny 2 it did fine too.

Not sure about next gen titles. Probably have to dial down settings.

yeah Cyberpunk 2077 will have to be dialed down but majority of AAA should be fine unless there is a huge wave of games that are ultra demanding, even then it's probably still good as a medium settings card
