Best 31.5" 2k 144hz gaming monitor?

Kranolf

Hi guys!

After over 1 year of using an ASUS XG32VQ I RMA'd because I had serious issues with it (large colored lines at the bottom until it warmed up), I got the full price back.

I ordered a Dell AW3418DW to try it out but the 1200$ price was not cheap at all. It is not 144hz, and though it is nice, it has BLB in all 4 corners.

I am thinking to send it back, and get a 16:9 32" again, though there is no IPS panel of that, if I want 2k and 144hz. Which manufacturer do you prefer? I would not like buying Asus again cause I am really afraid of having the same issue. Which is better? Msi, Lg, Samsung, AOC?

I have a gtx 1080, but not sure if gsync is any useful tho. The Dell AW I have right now, has it, hence the price tag I guess, but I had a freesync on that Asus (they added some kind of gsync support recently, not sure if there is any difference), and I was doing okay with it, I am not noticing major differences between these. What is your opinion on this?

Thanks for your responses!

Hi guys!

Nvidia supports free-sync now

just pick up this $400 Mono price 120hz ultra wide and you should be fine. If you're willing to spend a lot on your display, then just buy one of the 40" 4k 120hz monitors that are coming out, that way you won't have to replace it for the next 5-10 years or so.

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Does it fully support freesync? And is it the same as the monitors with gsync, or it is worse in some kind of way?

Not available in Hungary. Is it 120hz tho?

Also, I guess I will just go back to 31.5 16:9, as I mentioned in my post. So looking into something like that.

You can just force it on in the drivers on any free-sync display.

Free-sync quality should be pretty fine now in any monitor, but obviously always check reviews.

I don't know why you have no cheap 1440p ultra wides in the EU.

But 32" 1440p displays shouldn't be too much.

Unless you can find some of these, there might be newer models by now. 4k 120hz would be what I buy in the future, can just run games at 1080p or 75% resolution scale until we have affordable 4k 120fps GPUs in like 8 years or something.

Thanks a lot man! You didn't find any cheap 21:9 in the EU either? I am just checking, but I can't really do.

I was actually checking out this AOC monitor, I have a small 1080p 75hz as a secondary for a couple years and its totally fine never had issues. Do you think I should just go with that?

if you're willing to drop the refresh rate to 100Hz, there's a lot of options ...

I don't think my GTX1080 will output 144fps anyway on such beasts of monitors ... hence, myself, looking into a 34'' (I have to feel immerse in the game... no more smaller screens)...

as now, my options are:

- BenQ EX3501R (3440x1440 VA, 100hz, 4ms MBR, Freesync, HDMI/DP)
- Asus XG35VQ (3440x1440 VA, 100Hz, FreeSync, 4 ms, 2500:1, DP/2xHDMI)
- MSI MAG341CQ (3440x1440 VA, 100hz, FreeSync, 4ms, 3000:1, DVI/HDMI/DP)
- MSI MPG341 (3440x1440 VA, 144hz, 1ms, 3000:1, 1800R, HDR400, 2xHDMI/DP) [almost double the price of MAG]

if I win the Lotto

- Asus PG35VQ (3440x1440 VA, 200hz, 4ms, G-Sync, HDR1000, Quandum-Dot, HDMI/DP)

My heart if going into the MPG341 if I get a good discount on BlackFriday deals, or the XG35 if no MSI deal ...

NZXT H440 | i7 8700K @ 3.7GHz | Asus TUF Z370 | (4x8) 32GB | GTX 1080Ti | 1x Asus ROG Swift PG349Q + 2x Dell S2417DG | SSD NVMe (960+256) + HHD Barracuda 2Tb
AudioEngine D1 | Aune X7s | AudioEngine A5+ | HD 6xx | PC 37X | Z60 7.1 | Hart Audio cable set | G502 | G915 TKL

I just wouldn't spend $1000+ on anything that isn't a 4k 120hz display, I just go for the best value things mostly.

Thanks a lot for your answer! I would rather not go down to 100hz. I can even see the difference between  120 and 144, so 100 would be too low.

Also I was asking for a good 32" monitor 16:9

What do you think of the MSI Optix MAG322CQRV? It is the same price

Just gotta check reviews, a lot of them probably use the same panels anyways

hmm, this one's stand can't move left and right, I just realised lol

BTW I was wondering which resolution looks sharper? This 3440x1440 on a 21:9 34 inch, or 2560x1440 on a 16:9 on a 32 inch? Or is it the same?

An ultra wide would be way better if it's around the same price, that way you have more pixels to work with

but just use a ppi calculator to check the pixel density.

Doesn't really matter if the stand can't swivel lol, can just turn it.
