G-sync with capped framerate

So, I have a rather unusual problem, I have tearing in a game I play which is rainbow six siege, i have vsync off in game as well in nvidia control panel, my monitor is Samsung cfg73 24", it has freesync but with gsync compatible driver i enabled gsync and i have capped fps at 144 fps (it is important that i cap my fps otherwise my cpu usage gets over 100%), so should i enable g-sync and v-sync both and if i disable should i do it in nvidia control panel as well too?, this stuff is too much confusing for me. 

My specs are: i7-8700k, gtx 1060, msi-z370 gaming plus mobo, 16gb ram 

i get avg fps in-benchmark as 148fps

so the frame rate cap isn't working :P, try a lower number say 140fps.

 

Dont enable Vsync, it makes things smooth at the cost of a lot of input lag

That's your issue, you should be using V-Sync Double Buffered instead to eliminate tearing, Frame cappers are awful at it since there is no sort of sync going on.

 

Since you're only double-buffering on V-Sync there won't be any issues on the regard of input lag, specially at 144fps. In personal experience I've never had any input lag issue with V-Sync and I always use it on my main 100hz monitor.

So go V-Sync route instead of Frame Capping and considering you can always reach the 144fps all times G-Sync/FreeSync adds nothing to table here.

thanks for the reply dude, will go with v-sync as without it apparently the game has a bug with uncapped fps making cpu usage 100% and it causes terrible lag so ubisoft advised to cap fps.

i have to keep triple buffering off in nvidia control panel right?

will v-sync will cause input-lag if i always get 144+ fps on 144hz monitor?

Oh don't mention, glad we could help you out.

 

V-Sync+G-Sync(FreeSync) is the ultimate combo for the smoothest gaming experience you can have since G-Sync(FreeSync) will match your refresh rate to your fps while V-Sync is actively synchronizing the frames to the display.

 

With a framerate capper G-Sync(FreeSync) still works and will still match your refresh rate to your fps however you have no synchronizing going on causing the screen tearing.

 

If you ever feel V-Sync caused an input lag you can feel though and you want to go uncapped but avoid screen tearing you can always try using FastSync option available on the driver:

Have in mind though that in this case CPU usage will increase again.

thanks for the advice!, i think i'll stick with v-sync for now, i don't feel difference with fast anyway
