You just reminded me that I wanted to pick up a cheap Powershot ELPH 180 for $110 to see how it stacked up.

A 150 dollar camera might take better pictures than your smartphone, but probably not by much. In what scenarios it will be better will also vary.

Personally, I would stick with your phone camera for quick and easy pictures on the go, and your Canon DSLR for more serious stuff. A 150 dollar point and shoot would probably end up not being used that much. It's just not a large enough upgrade from your phone to warrant carrying it around.

It depends on the model and types of photos you take. More optical zoom can help, if you need/use it.

For something decisively better than phones that is small, you're looking at the Sony RX100 series and the Canon G7X and G9X series, all of which are well over the $200 mark.

So you say you have a Canon 5D Mark 4, but only have $150 - $200 to spend on a real digital camera?

And you say you want a fast and good digital camera with basically zero budget?

What planet are you on?

You should already know better than to even ask that question if you have the 5D Mark 4.

That said ANY DSLR will beat any smart phone made, even the cheapest entry level bodies with a kit lens set to AUTO will beat any smartphone....

But they are over your budget even on a deal...

There are some good pocket cameras around, but they are also more than your budget.

It's not that the smart phones are good, they really aren't, it's those really cheap garbage point and shoot cameras are really that bad..

It's not hard to beat a smart phone, not at all, don't even have to really think about a real camera that will do that. Any of them worth buying will do that easy, even the budget models. Could hand some person that never took a picture in their life a budget DSLR with a kit lens set on AUTO would easily do better.

However with no budget to speak of..... Buy a new 64GB or 128GB memory card or 2 with that budget, or maybe a memory card and a filter. Or a nice strap or something.
