Not so inoccent random PM's (from Emma ?) PLZ READ ITS A REAL ISSUE

Message added by vanished

We are aware of this problem and are actively working to eliminate it as best we can.

Do not make any more threads about this issue.  This is now the main topic and additional threads will just be merged into this one if found.

If you receive one of these PMs,

  • Do not click any links
  • Do not reply
  • Report it using the links/buttons available so we are made aware (example below)
  • Delete it

If you see one of these profiles:

  • Do not post on their page
  • Report any spam status updates on the page
  • If the account is more than 24 hours old and there is no spam on the page, it is almost certainly banned, even if you cannot see it.  Again, refer to recommendation 1 above

If you received a notification for a PM, but the PM does not exist, it was almost certainly due to one of these and can be safely ignored.

If you received what appeared to be spam email from LTT, please understand that we do not send spam, but if you have elected to receive email notifications of PMs, you will receive an email about PMs, including this PM which is spam.

Hello, Im not that active in the forum so I don't know if that's a first heard issue.

Also not sure if I should write it there but I got a random pm from a "girl" calling me to go to www.f@ckm*****...com.

I attach a screenshot (I erased some sensitive stuff and the link).I think it's a real issue cause people might visit the links, or even kids on the forum get messaged.

If any staff wants more info, don't hesitate to ping me.

P.S. I didn't know what to title that topic....

Stavros A.

I do hope you are working on something to stop things like this from happening again. I've said it in the past and I'll say it again, in my opinion it is too easy for bots to make accounts and post spam on this site. At least make it difficult for them to make accounts, cause at the minute it's just an open gate.

So far, we're deleting the messages and banning the accounts as quickly as we can.

I'm not aware if the forum has a spam filter for PMs the way it does for standard posts, though...

I just got one myself. Please implement something to prevent PMs from providing a download.html upon simply clicking the subject line in the 'Messages' dropdown.

On the bright side, this is a great advertisement for why everyone should be making use of Bitdefender!

A society's accepted views of the world surrounding said society is both the making and undoing of society itself.

Oh no, it wasn't at all. Still, having Bitdefender is great for that piece of mind incase it was seriously malicious.

What I'm saying though is to block obvious bots from creating accounts. Sure its the Internet and you can never stop the constant bot attacks but at least have something in place to stop them from creating accounts.

We do have a system of sorts for that, but it only works to an extent.

Improve it then ?

Seriously though, it would make your job as a moderator easier and it would make the experience nicer for the genuine standard forum members.

As appreciated as this suggestion is, it is pretty complicated to get something like that setup.

With that said, perhaps LTT could contract TL.net's R1CH to help out with some forum refresh plans...
