If I could only have one computer this would be it. - Alienware m15 Review

The Alienware m15 R2 can do basically everything I'd ever want a computer to do... but at that price, should you just get two instead?

I thought the point of the Tobboii eye tracking was to enable foveated rending in future games. While the links both talk about VR, it should be able to be used in flat 3D games. Nvidia talked about it a lot around the 2016 VR speculative rush and the GTX 1080 launch.

In the shorter term, the idea that streaming software could use eye tracking intrigues me. With eye tracking the limited bandwidth of a stream might be better allocated. I don't know if any software implements this, but it sounds cool.

That is a bit pricey for the laptop. I wonder how the model running the i5-9300H stacks up? Any ideas?

The integrated tobii does not work for Windows hello? The 4c does it quite well. It just needs to be configured and windows detects the device as a compatible camera and sets everything up.

I've been thinking about a gaming laptop and did look at reviews of the AW m15 and m17 but was alarmed at the noise and heat of the machine in light workloads never mind the ridiculous heat and noise when the laptop was under load (60 degrees surface temperature).  I find the low powered ULV laptops often have irritating fan noise as they appear to be too thin but I wouldn't say that I'm that fussy otherwise, do people just accept these insane temperatures and noise or is it not as bad as it looks? It seems an odd contradiction to the many desktops on LTT where there's frequently a focus on quiet cooling systems.  I also wonder what it means long term for the components as my last gaming laptop was the Dell XPS M1730 which ran hot and loud but didn't last long until its GPU melted.

I'd also have been interested to see the how the different graphics options perform as some of these max-q cards seem to underperform more than expected for their namesake and upgrading to the higher performance cards may not be worth the high cost.

I've said this countless times, but I'll just keep saying it for as long as it remains a completely unnecessary ultimatum.  Why on earth are we being forced to choose either low resolution or crappy refresh rates?  Even 1440p is a massive improvement over 1080 without the performance cost of 4k, yet it's never supported on laptops like this.

Instead of having crappy resolution and overkill fps or overkill resolution and crappy fps, why won't a single manufacturer offer something in the middle that would offer a great overall experience without the compromise?  It's a shame, because otherwise this seems like a great "does everything" laptop.

Alienware do offer this on their bigger 17 R5 (the non slimline one) with the option of a 1440p 120Hz screen although not on the m17.  What you've said makes sense but I'm wondering if they don't see much demand for it.

You actually got me to watch an unbox therapy video... gg. Sweet laptop as well, I didn't know Vaio got sold off. Good riddance honestly, Sony struggled to make a good computer for most of its existence in the PC space and were renowned for massively bloated installs of Windows.

Brands I wholeheartedly reccomend (though do have flawed products): Apple, Razer, Corsair, Asus, Gigabyte, bequiet!, Noctua, Fractal, GSkill (RAM only)

Hi folks.

I saw this review video a few days ago when doing some research on grabbing a new laptop.  I have always liked Dell - never had an issue with their quality and I have an Alienware R7 w/ a 1080 TI at home that does the job.

I'm thinking about picking up the m15 (with 1660 TI) on a Black Friday deal however I have noticed a lot of comments that talk about it running hot...  99C.   In my reviews it seems that the majority of gaming laptops seem to run hot.  I've heard people mention re-pasting and undervolting the CPU to get it under control, and I do not mind tinkering with the computer - I just want a good buy.

FYI My current ASUS ROG with a GTX 960M just isn't cutting it.  I just want to play games like Wildlands, Division 2 Rainbow 6 Siege and 7D2D while getting more than 30 FPS with some half decent visuals when I'm traveling and stuck in hotels for a few days a week (I'm on the road 200+ days a year).

Are there any lists of recommendations for laptops that actually have proper cooling without running too hot?  I'm looking for 15.6 light weight to accommodate my T460 that I use for work.  Would simply lowering the graphic settings do the job of keeping it cool?

Many thanks
