How many computers do you have lying around the house?

mamamia88

too many is the correct answer I guess ...

4 laptops (2 not working anymore waiting to be dropped at the recycling center)

4 desktop (my main rig, my old HTPC, my old NAS, my brother's upcoming gaming rig)

Those are full machines, I have lots of spare parts laying around ... I even have a few that are still BNIB !!! ?

My main desktop I built, My Macbook when I'm on the go, and an old Dell desktop I configured with a Core 2 Quad, 8GB of RAM and a 256 SSD for around $50 all in. I try to sell off anything else to avoid e-waste.

Main Computers:

  • R5 2700x/16gb/GTX 1060 6g
  • i5 7600k/16gb/GTX 750ti
  • Early 2008 24" iMac (decked-out for the time, but nearing useless now) C2D 3.06ghz/4gb/8800 GS
  • i5 4570/8gb/GTX 960 (ITX HTPC for 4k Minecraft, CS:GO, and TF2)
  • Dell E6320 laptop with a i5 2520/8gb. Hearty setup, kind of clapped-out, but it fits in my motorcycle topcase.

Stuff laying around with varying levels of potential:

  • Athlon 870k/16gb (Decent setup on an A88X board, might be a file server at work soon)
  • Dell Vostro 230 C2D e7400/4gb
  • Dell XPS 7100 Phenom x6 1035t/8gb/Quadro 4000
  • Pi 1
  • Pi 3
  • Intel DG31PR/E6400 (I think)/4gb It has a diskette controller on board, moderate utility sometimes when I need to read a diskette.

Old crap, basically:

  • Compaq e-PC 42 OG Pentium 4/512mb, I have two, one for spare parts but haven't used in a long time
  • Mac Mini, first gen with the now useless 1.25ghz G4. Essentially a doorstop but it's the only Mac I've bought new
  • Early 2001 iMac 500mhz. Biggest paperweight I own, but it still works. ?
  • Compaq laptop Athlon XPM-2500/512mb/video card I don't remember.

My Current Setup:

AMD Ryzen 5900X

Kingston HyperX Fury 3200mhz 2x16GB

MSI B450 Gaming Plus

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

EVGA RTX 3060 Ti XC

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB

Do non-PC computers count, like e.g. RPi?

In use :

3 desktops (main rig, folding rig, NAS)

1 laptop

Lying around :

1 netbook, but that's in the "electronics for the recycling center" bin right now and will be gone shortly.

I hate to throw out stuff that still works, but even with Puppy Linux it just isn't usable anymore.  Time to get rid of it.

Currently have 4 computers that are used frequently enough to not warrant a dismantle. It consists of 2 high end Gaming/Workstations in my office, a HTPC in the family room and a laptop (If I want to sit in a Starbucks and try to write a script about the story that is my life but be continually stuck on the first line...)

I have too many, a stack of over 10 laptops under my desk.

I have at least 7 desktops in the spare room.  People like to give me their spare parts.  I'm slowly in the process of downsizing and getting rid of all of them though

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

I have 2 old desktops: one Ivy Bridge i5, and a really old Xeon based system. I also have 2 old retired laptops in my closet. I also have a box of old parts, 2 empty cases in my closet, plus my daily driver desktop and laptop. My roommates each have a laptop of their own. I also have a Haswell based Xeon workstation at the office I use for my job, but my employer supplied that. Thought it should count since it is the system I use the most.

Suddenly I feel thrifty for 'just' having two active machines, an iMac and a MacBook Pro.  There's also a 2002-era PowerBook G4 sitting in the closet, but unless someone can repair the broken hinge (and likely replace the battery) it's not coming back.

I have spare parts to build like 10 PCs. I got most my parts from upgrading old PCs, building new PCs for people and them giving me their old one, motherboard upgrades, etc. You can build up a nice collection in 10 plus years like I have. Altho I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff lately.

Oh my, I have like 6 to 7 in various states, most of them very old, in the my parents garage. Then at my house I have my main tower, a laptop and a little dell OptiPlex fx160. And quite a few laptops between the places that I have started selling. I have just collected so many from people who have either had old stuff and gave it to me for free or I bought for like 5 bucks at the scrapyard.
