IPS or VA

I'm gonna use it for gaming and watching videos, so it needs to be fast but still look good. I know VA has much better contrast which I believe is the only thing better than IPS, but does it make that major of a difference or is IPS better?

Both have ups and downs.

Depends somewhat of the actual panels.

It depends on the specific monitor. A high quality VA is overall better than a low quality IPS but a high quality IPS is likely better overall than a high quality VA.

Almost all IPS panels I have used that are high refresh rate or high resolution have had issues with backlight bleed or color shift. VA looks much much better IMO. The blacks are so much better and don't look washed out. But there is a bit more ghosting then IPS panels. If the VA panel is 60hz I would say it's not great for gaming. If it is 100Hz+ it's fine. If you play a lot of fast paced FPS games go for IPS otherwise VA

I prefer VA, all comes down to the monitors beyond that though

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Too bad I don't have them side by side. Used to own C24G1 but now have a 24G2U.

Both have ups and downs. IPS has only 6bit-FRC while VA has true 8-bit panel for example.

How's the contrast on the 24G2U? Does it have major backlight bleed? The monitor is really new so there's barely any info on it online.

There is more backlight bleed than on C24G1 but depends of actual individual monitor how noticable it is.

 

Contrast seems OK. Weaker probably than C24G1 had, but ok I guess.

Colors out of the box were pretty good already.

 

Here where I live the C24G1 is about 15€ cheaper than 24G2U I'm not even sure which is better for the price. Maybe the newer IPS model, though backlight bleed might be a problem if trying to look at it in darkness.

I would say VA if u have the budget to get a good one.

Before owning a curved monitor I thought that's not a plus, but after using curved monitors a while I have to say that curved have a bit better uniformity of image on the sides. 

The flat monitors seem to have a bit more shifted colors/contrast on sides, after the curved experience.

 

So C24G1 is better in this respect.

Guess I'll be going with the C24G1. Wish it had 4x usb 3.0 ports & built in speakers like the newer 24G2U, but sadly that one has IPS.

Hard to say without trying them, given it's the same company and the rest of the specs are nearly identical the better panel is probably going to be the more expensive one. Be aware that the peak brightness of both is pretty low, just yesterday LTT posted a video where they review a 1440p VA 144hz from AOC with the same brightness specification and they complained quite a bit about that.

What makes you prefer IPS? VA has much better contrast & no backlight bleed, seems like better colors and less smearing on IPS doesn't beat that?

better colors and ive never had an ips that has motion blur, its fucking nice.

the fast panels give me whiplash with the amount of motion blur on them, the black levels are useless when the colors are pure crap, no?

backlight is not really annoying for me tbh idk

C24G1 has decent colors if you adjust it properly. My main fear is the contrast, seems like it makes a pretty huge difference.

watching videos will be shit on literally any tn panel the second you see how an ips looks ive never had a VA but 

contrast though idk

that monitor is pretty dirt cheap too

i say get it, and if the motion blur is too much just send it back

it has prime afterall
