PC power cycling (need help)

KhorCS

Hey everyone, I'm new to building PC and I ran into an issue (title says it all)

Bought all the components I need to make a new PC, made sure everything is connected but oddly enough when I try to turn on the PC, it starts to power cycle (as it turning on and off and on and off).

List of components are as follows:

Ryzen 5 3600

B450 Asrock steel legend

16GB 2100Mhz G skill ram

ASUS GTX 1060 6GB

Not sure why it is happening, I am aware that B450s do not innately support ryzen 3000 series out of the box; Hence, I asked the seller to update it for me before shipping it out to me, not sure if they did though.

Anyone knows if there's anything that might be causing it? Or could it just be an unsupported bios causing it?

Thanks in advance.

display cable connected to the GPU? power cable for the CPU and graphics card plugged in? Check if memory sticks clicked into their slots.

- Hdmi cable connected to GPU

- Both power cables are connected

- Ram are securely clipped in

I really can't think of anything that I've missed.

Could it be the Bois isn't it updated to support 3000 series as I previously speculated?

Well, they said their newer stock of B450s are all up to date and ryzen 3000 series ready. Then, they proceeded to say that it might be a mix up on the warehouse sending out old stock to me instead of a new one that's up to date. They seem like they are just as confused as I am lol.

So I'm guessing they said they'll "update" bios before shipping out, pretending to deliver great service so that I'll buy from them. Then, when I'm complaining about problems, they are second guessing themselves? I'm just speculating at this point.

Update the bios already....... Get a cheapo cpu you can put in the generic (since i was a teenager) socket. I think that socket accepts potatoes too.

I would if I had an older AM4 CPU, sadly I don't and I'm not going to waste money buying 1 either.

My original intention was to get a X570 to house my ryzen 5 3600, but the cheaper ones had god awful rear I/O and the semi decent ones were way overpriced. Like the x570 Aorus pro WiFi is like 270 USD in USA, but here it's 350 USD, that's why I chose a B450. I ain't gonna pair a pricy motherboard with a cheapo CPU.

This is why I always recommend a b450 with bios flashback to new builders... saves these types of problems cropping up.

True that, but the ones with that feature that I can think of is the msi b450 tomahawk and a few more msi boards (at least the ones that aren't overpriced), the others that have this feature are way too expensive to the point I might as well buy x570.

Reason why I didn't go with the msi b450s is that their rear I/O seemed lacking to me. Guess my decision came back to bite me in the bum

They are but it takes too long, I think I just might return it and get a X570 at this point

Yeah I guess it does lack a few USB 3 ports, but other than that it's standard... I have one myself and just use a USB hub, but I do that on almost all my machines anyway. The only other thing missing really is DP, but most people buying this board would be using a CPU without iGPU anyway, so there's no point in having it anyway, for most people.

I think in general, AMD should have had another classification for people that would use iGPU, but with decent VRMs still, not like the shitty A320... then all the boards b--- and x--- could just save on having video out on the IO entirely.

Welp turns out that they were the ones that screwed up, they gave me a B450 without the ryzen 3000 ready sticker.

PC was power cycling due to bios not supporting the new cpus, swapped it just now, all good now.

TL;DR unsupported bios will cause power cycling.

Thanks for the replies everyone
