Unpopular Tech Opinions

Ever feel like you were alone in what you thought about technology today? I sure have, so I thought I'd create this thread to see if we're truly as alone as we may think. So ITT, list off a few items that seems go against the grain when it comes to mainstream tech ideas. I'll start.

1. High end specs in a phone (ie 12GB of RAM) are a waste of money to both produce and buy

2. 'Safety features' in a modern vehicles, like applying the brakes for you, will create bad driving habits and bad drivers overall

3. Voice assistants are a bad idea

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k | RAM: Crucial 16GB @ 1866MHz |

GPU: EVGA GTX 980Ti Hybrid | Motherboard: ASUS Maximus Formula VII |

Monitor: ROG Swift P278Q | Case: Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV ATX | PSU: Seasonic 860W

Does wearing a seat belt cause you to drive more dangerously? That's literally the argument you're making here...

I think he's talking about the auto braking and lane keep assist features

Laptops have become too "thin and light" at the expense of everything else

Yeah, no, I agree with that in like 90% of cases; especially when it comes to Apple stuff.

Silence should be more valued than low temperatures. I don't care if my R9 280 runs at 85C or 25C. What I do care about is how loud it is.

Apple, Razer, Asus, Dell, HP, Acer, Lenovo, all of them

The only thing I will say is for like 75% of the things I used to have to do in business school, a thin n' light with a regular old processor would get me through everything I needed it to. Hell I used to use a bootcamped 2016 MBP with Access on it. Now that I'm actually using android studio, SQL server, etc. I've gone back to my old Aorus X5sV5 with an i7 and 980m. It's heavy af and has a broken hinge but it does way more than that MBP ever could

Yeah, those are additional safety features...so the same concept applies.

Agree.

Personally myself, I wish my truck had the blind spot sensors on it.  I really do try to check, but darn at times if a small vehicle hides in a blind spot.  At least I have a back up camera, that been really useful when backing up.

Of course...I will never get in a vehicle again with our two programmers.

.........crazy buggers wanted to test the auto brake feature on the car.

Most people act like 200g will break their back and would take an overheating soldered mess with a shallow keyboard and no durability of that means they cAn shave off a few extra gramms

There's a sweet spot though; 4-6lbs. You get a good intersection of weight to performance there imo

Well for gaming smart phones 12GB RAM matters.  Also assisted braking is sorta not to my liking.  Voice assistants are different depending on gear or car and what not.
