HP Z800 with 2 or more m2 SSD

Ritindra

Hi,

I really wonder if I can install a PCIe card with  2/4 m2 nvme SSD in my HP Z800. Any experiences someone? If yes which slot is best and what settings to do, duh?

You can install pci-e cards with a single m.2 card on them in any pci-e slot. Depending on motherboard you may not be able to boot from an m.2 drive plugged in such an adapter card.

ex of such card:

The pci-e slot looks weird because it has cuts on purpose to make it fit inside pci-e x4, x8 or x16 slots.

You have to be careful cause some cards have 2 m.2 connectors but one is sata only ... here's one example of such card.

Adapter cards with 2 m.2 connectors can be of two kinds.. .the simple kinds with no chips on them only work if the motherboard and bios supports something called "bifurcation"

More expensive adapter cards have a chip on them which creates 2 separate pci-e "slots" from the pci-e slot the card is plugged in and then the 2 m.2 connectors are connected to those pci-e "slots" on the adapter card.
