AMD Ryzen 7 Build Laggy, Help!

Hey all.

 

Back in January I upgraded from AMD FX to AMD Ryzen 7 2700 with 32GB DDR4. For the next 6 months, things have been great! But in recent weeks, I've found myself having to reboot once a week because my system was lagging in performance, especially with Lightroom. So I backed up everything, installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 and doubled my ram to 64. Still, same thing. I went in last night, put fresh thermal paste on my processor, and moved my sound card into another PCI Express slot, thinking that some of lag is coming off my GPU, figured I'd readjust for proper ventilation. But I'm not seeing much of a difference. For day to day work, I don't have to reboot. But when I stream or use Lightroom, I do.

After running Speccy, I noticed that the memory speed and timing doesn't add up. This is the memory that I have, G.SKILL Ripjaws V (https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232660?Item=N82E16820232660). And if that's where my lagging is, how do properly set this on my board?

I'd highly recommend replacing that H60 with something better. Either a high end air cooler like the Noctua NH-D15, BeQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, or a 240mm+ AIO. (There are cheaper air coolers that'll suffice, however if you want best cooling + low noise, those would be your best options.

 

Your CPU is running fairly hot (I don't like letting mine go much past 72c) and could be part of it. (throttling maybe?)

 

Your RAM shouldn't be an issue as it's 3000MT/s CAS16, which is fine for Ryzen. If it's running at a slower speed, check your motherboard's manual for how to "overclock" it to the appropriate speed.

 

For now, maybe try increasing the fan speeds on your radiator, and make sure the pump speed is pretty high too.

That was my next guess. I had this on my old build and Corsair replaced it when it was faulty. I was thinking about going with the H110, but I will look into the Noctua NH-D15, and the other items you suggested. I also thought that the temps were a bit too high as well. It usually fluxuates between 78 and 80.

I went out and got the Corsair H100 Pro, and temps are around 75-76 for my CPU. I may go back and get the H115 sincte those have 140mm fans.

download userbenchmark and benchmark your PC it will tell you if your components are running as they should, if it says performing below expectations on one of the components then you'll know what it is. it will test everything CPU  RAM GPU HDD SSD. Here is an example of just some of my components benchmarked with it.
