Can’t wait to see the finished build. This is a bit ambitious for my tastes. I personally went with a “as stock as possible” approach with my internal look.

You want to beat Apple at their own game use your CNC equipment instead of a Dremel. Go grab a WP100 case

So your solution to the project is to do an entirely different project?

Hey, I left a comment on the Youtube video page already, but here goes again:

If you want to make a 3D scan of a shiny object, you should use an inert mineral spray like a developer spray. It's what is used by archaeologists when scanning shiny objects like stone tools. I can get you in contact with someone from Minnesota University who can possibly give you a hand, even if you just want to make a tutorial video about making photogrammetry models!

Honestly, they would probably get better results using photogrammetry. Take a ton of photos and use ReCap to make the pointcloud. The type of laser scanners there neighbor has isn't for this type of work.

Send me the Mac Pro case and I'll reverse engineer the whole thing for you for free.

This would be so easy to do. It'll only take me maybe a couple of hours. It's really not that hard.

P.S. I won't be 3D scanning your case. I'll be reverse engineering it "old school" using a ruler/tape measure, a pair of 8" digital calipers and that's about it.

Have one of the admins PM/DM me if you're interested.

And yes, I am 100% dead series.

Reverse engineering this in CAD is going to be very easy for me to do.

I've reverse engineered stuff that's significantly more difficult with more complex geometries than this.

This will be a fun little project for me.

Hit up your local craigslist and pick up an old one for $25. That's what I did when I wanted the case.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Cant say i liked this vid.

A whole vid ..as an intro...

its an entire vid effectively telling us what u plan to do ..without actually doing anything. Thats something thats usually put at the beginning of a vid ..not an entire vid in and of itself.

They also already did an intro video for this project over 8 weeks ago. No progress was made, and the Mac Pro is going to come out sometime in the next 1-3 months, so they had better get their butts in gear if they want to finish this before that happens.

Better yet, use free software like VisualSfM and Meshlab together (sure, Agisoft is clearly the best option, but it's not free).

Oh...I don't want the system.

I actually don't have a need for a system like that.

It was just to help them with the engineering and then planning for this project.

Agisoft rebranded their Agisoft Photoscan, and it is now cheaper i think.

It is now Agisoft Metashape.

An Asus VROC card on a non-Asus motherboard? I'm pretty sure all of those x16 VROC cards are BIOS locked to manufacturer.
