Worth it?

Greetings, recently I did some research to find out the best parts to build my gaming PC, and I have come across two hard decisions to make. I believe the most parts that I have to focus on when building a gaming PC are graphics card, CPU and the monitor.

 

1_ First with the CPU, I want to choose between these 2 processors: i9 9900k and i7 9700k. Despite having a little difference in performance, the gap in the price is almost 108$, and here are the differences between the two: https://www.techspot.com/review/1730-intel-core-i9-9900k-core-i7-9700k/ (please check it out for more details).

Depending on the website above, is the i9 9900k worth paying extra 108$ to improve the gaming experience?

 

2_Then comes the graphics card, so I wanna pick between RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 ti. I watched several youtube videos about the difference between the two, and I have come to this conclusion:

-both have the same abilities and features.

-the RTX 2080 ti is better than RTX 2080 in one thing, and it is that it has a minor extra frames per second (fps), the gap is 3 to 10 fps depending on the game, and that's all.

But my God... the RTX 2080 ti is 500$ more than RTX 2080. Do you think it is worth to buy the ti one? or is it made just for rich people tryna have the best performance ever? have you ever come across a game that requires higher than RTX 2080 to run? I mean I would buy RTX 2080 if it just results in decreasing resolution options a bit more in some games. What do you think?

I'd go 9700K and 2080, given your options.

 

I'd go Ryzen 3600 and 5700XT given no parameters.

 

Edit after Origami's like:  You don't need a 2080Ti except for 4K gaming.  The 2080Ti isn't 3-10 fps faster than the 2080, it's more like 25-30% in most games.   It's a powerhouse for people that want the best, and it provides that for the most part.  It's not as unreasonable as it sounds, when taking into account the entire PC price and the improved performance of that new PC.

No, not ray tracing.  Why do you need this?  If so, then go Nvidia.

 

Ryzen 3600 performs similarly to an 8700K, slightly behind the 9700K.  Why do you need a 9900K for gaming?  It's more of an editing CPU really.  That's why the 9700K games just as well.

 Depends what you play.  Gaming at 4K is a waste, and paying $500 more to be able to for the small difference in visuals over 1440p isn't worth it IMO.

 

I wouldn't use a 2080 for 4K gaming, no.  Unless you're okay with turning settings down.  But then, why buy 4K to turn down settings?

 

Do you put regular gas in your high performance sports car?

For the CPu the 3600 do fine. althought the cou gonna affect the gaming performance but only a little. the rest its up to GPU. especially when you are going above 60FPS the frame fluctuation wouldn't be that difference since you are paying for RTX. and 2080 is more than enough. the TI version its just marketing trap

IPC is different......

 

Hard to compare clock for clocn between architectures

 

3700x best value among 8 cores and 9900k is best CPU. Would suggest ignoring the 9700k due to lack of HT

You mean Super and not Ti right? The Super class I'm pretty sure replaced the Ti, and some of the 2080 Supers out there aren't $500 more

4k gaming is not here yet. i highly recommend with 1440P. gives your hardware freedom alittle bit. and reduce usage. 4k RTX is super heavy.

Supers didn't replace the Ti.  They're tweaked versions of the regulars, not a full generational improvement.  The 2080Ti is still very much a thing.

I thought somewhere along the line they dropped either the original, or the Ti to make room for the Super?

 

In any case you have to ask yourself if the extra cost is worth the minor performance gain you'd get. 

 

Also for CPU wait until intels next gen comes out I'm sure there will be some big price cuts so they don't lose even more market share to team red.

Well, I'll do more research and pick between i7-9700k and Ryzen 5 3600, that's even harder to decide tbh.

And for the graphics card, I think the RTX 2080 will do fine, I also have changed my mind about the 4k monitor, think I'll go for 1440p.

Ultrawide is my suggestion.  2080 + 3600 + Ultrawide = love and goodness.

If you are getting a RTX 2080 ti go with i9 9900k. If you are going with a RTX 2080 go with a i7 9700k.

If you are planning to upgrade to a high end Nvidia next gen card go with a  i9 9900k.

 

If you are planning to do a lot of ray tracing games go with a 1440p 144hz, 3440 X 1440 100hz or a 3840 X 1600 75hz monitor. A RTX 2080 ti is not up to 4k raytracing.

My 4k setup has a RTX 2080 ti but I play RTX games on my 3840 X 1600 monitor to be at or close to 60fps.

There's not 144Hz 1440p UW.  144Hz is for 16:9 1440p.  1440p UW is 100Hz or 120hz currently.  Tho you can get a 1080p UW in 144hz... but no.

 

Lots of PC for those games but it's your money.

The best resolution for a 2080S using RTX is 2560 X 1440 or less.

That is not true. Both LG and MSI have a 34" 3440 x 1440 144Hz Freesync monitor in their lineups.

A G-Sync version would probably be twice the price  although I know the LG one supports Nvidia gpu's.

 

Pauls hardware did a nice review of it.
