Not much, the CPU throttles on purpose to keep itself safe, sure if you continued to force 100Cº on it say for a month then you could face issues but you're likely fine.

I'm glad you solved it ^^

Hey, my i7 4790 goes upp to 90-100C everytime I play games or something. Even if the cpu load is 30% still.... it goes up high. And I don't know why this occurs.. I am using a stock cooler but I don't thin the cooler is the issue.

On average use the cpu is 40-50C

If I were to delid it with some really good and cool material, would it bring it down with 20-30C ?
If I delid it will be my first time ever and I think I'm gonna use a knife instead of delidding tool.. Feels safer.

It has to be an issue with the cooler or it's placement/installation on the CPU. It is not normal for that CPU (which can not be overclocked) to get that hot.

Is the cooler properly installed? All the pins are properly through the motherboard? I'd try a remount first.

You do not need to delid it, something is clearly wrong with the cooling if it's reaching 100Cº

What software have you used to testify these temps?

What CPU cooler do you have? How is your case like and airflow?

Have you properly mounted it? made sure to peal the plastic off it? (some has it).

no reason to delid and dont delid with a knife pls.

jsut replace the thermal paste under the stock cooler. it may have dried up over the years.

I will change the thermal paste right now. Cooler is fine but like its 5 years old and im using its pre applied cooling paste. I'm gonna try it hang on.

I'm going to change the thermal paste right now.

I am using the original pre applied thermal paste from the stock cooler. And the guy I bought the cooler from have had it for years. So I'l change and we will see.

Oh yes Intel Stock cooler already is underwhelming and the old stock pre-applied paste is probably just dry at this point, you do not need to delid it at all nor is recommended that you try to without proper skill as killing the CPU is a real chance.

All you have to do is clean the CPU and cooler, apply a fresh new paste and mount it properly... if you want you can also get an aftermarket cooler like the 212 Black Edition for improved thermals and lower noise under operation.

OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!! FUCK I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG.!!!!!

IT NEVER GOES ABOVE 40C NOW, EVEN IF IM GAMING OMG.. :D The cooling paste which was pre applied was dried like you said LOL.

The thing is I excluded this as a reason to fault because my friend said the cpu was hot just as it is...

No, delidding wouldn't help. The stock cooler doesn't apply enough pressure to get any benefit from it.

Moved to Air Cooling.

From experience, I would not use a blade to delid 4th generation chips. There's a bunch of FIVR components lining the left side of the chip, and it's easy to dislodge them if you're not careful. I was careful (with both a G3258 and a 4790K), however for someone who is doing it the first time, the risk probably isn't worth it.

I was more commenting on how he said that a blade felt safer than a delid tool. You can use a knife, preferably a very thin one like a razor blade and being very careful you can cut the glue holding the IHS on. The danger is that you put the tool way to far. Hence it being rather risky

Oh well I would not do that. I know, I would just cut the glue very carefully. Baby steps.

i mean the issue was allways the intel box cooler being the intel box cooler and dry thermal paste.
