The perfect monitor

Turtle Rig

I have been intrigued with ultra wide screen PC monitors.  Far as I can remember I used a FW900  22.5 inch 2304x1440@80hz.  Gaming on it UT99 was so nice no motion blur smooth as butter.  Then I went to another monitor until I got my 28" Sammy no led first 4k monitor.  I was amazed things were so small and crisp and lots of real estate for my DAW.  Then I got this AOC Im using now in my Sig.  It is very nice... 1 problem...  60hz.  Games are smooth but not 144hz smooth or 100hz smooth.  For this reason I set my vsync to FAST , so it drops frames but gives you a smooth tear free experience.  As this goes on more UW monitors come out with new resolutions like 5120x1440 Sammy 49"  Then bunch of 3440x1440 monitors.  First off my video card does not meet standards I have for it by using 5120 or 3440.  Unless I want black borders I must just accept it.  Netflix ,, borders utube borders.  A very cool chap forgot his name was so helpful for me explaining everything there is to explain.  I feel I have some knowledge but of course Im not the sharpest tool in the shed.  For long time now I ask myself what about a 4k display with 144hz and 21:9 or automatically change aspect ratio to 16:9 so we can view the utube in full screen or movies in full screen.  I understand pretty much every game supports UWD as the guru here told me,, I wish I remembered his name to praise him.  Hey kept on preaching and explaining and I listened and what not.  Why couldnt that 3440x1440 be 2160p then change automatically to 16:9 for videos.  I play at 1440p and there is no way I can handle 3440 res let alone Sammy's 49" inches 5120res.  I am just with UWD I think its super cool and every game is on this long list.  Literally every game supports ultra wide resolution.  However I must play at 3440res ane that is a downer.  I think Sammy 49" is way over board for me but the idea of going from 4k display and vertical size will be compromised just for gaming and what not.  Will I be in disgust if I get a 3440x1440 144hz.  I know I will feel it on the desktop so Im stoked about that, but Im not stoked I have to down grade from 4k to 2.8k lol.  Can anyone with my similar story rise up and shed some big light on me.  Thank you for reading this far.  Thank you

My opinion?  144hz over 60hz over to much ultra wide over to resolution over etc etc etc

I haven't pulled the trigger on getting another GREAT monitor like my Acer XF270HU because I have other things I want to spend my hobby money on :) but the 144hz is just all the difference over my 1080p and 4k 60hz panels I use.  Id rather 2k 144hz than 4k 60hz all day long.

Wow thanks for your great response my friend.  BTW did you mean 4k desktop 60h or games at 1440p .  Wow so you say it made a world of difference and I believe you.  As you have experience in this field.  I bet scrolling web pages doesn't give blur and other thing sin desktop.  So that is satisfying.  As Tristerin my friend said once you go Ultra Wide 144hz you will foget about your 4k resolution desktop and 1440p gaming and what not...  Am I right on this note Tristerin.  Thanks a bunch.  You seem knowledgable and I believe you that 144hz 3440x1440 freesync as well,, is much better then having a 4k display, even tho I play my games at 1440p.  So my gaming experience will be immresive but once back to desktop I dislike the border situation or perhaps there is tech that automatically changes the aspect ratio which I don't think any monitor can do.

I am going to believe you Tristerin I have seen your posts....  I have no choice but to get 3440x1440 and as you said,, NOT YOUR WORDS,, but I will be in heaven at 144hz desktop and gaming.  So I thionk you made my choice very easy.  Thank you.  I will see if I can sell this monitor for maybe 200 dollars or something.  Also it is big so lots of tennis match going on and what not.

Wow Thank you for your awesome post my friend.  Looks like you got me my friend Im going Ultra Wide and say goodbyte to 4k 16:9 regardless of borders.  What is this Nano IPS technology about ?  It costs almost 800 dollars while the exact same monitor without the nano IPS is 399.99 and 1080 vertical.

WTF is this Nano IPS about I have no clue.  Is it worth double the price just to have nano IPS ?

Also to ad, will IPS or this nano IPS blow me away costing 900 dollars.  HDR400 freesync and 144hz 3440x1440 ?  I have never used a IPS, so I have no clue what nano IPS is gonna do.

Is it basically worth 500 dollars more to get nano IPS 3440x1440 144hz ?

Im not knowledgeable about monitors one bit, tbh, just giving my use case scenario and was highly recommended the Acer I have when it went on sale so I got it.  That panel looks amazing, colors are awesome, and the high refresh rate is what really makes it shine.  So for me, Im going to ensure I replace my monitors I have with at least 1080p 144hz on the rig I game on with the hz being the driving factor of choosing.
